Subject: Release of e2fsprogs 1.19
Date: Thu, 27 Jul 2000 10:48:00 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
I am happy to announce a new release of the e2fsprogs distribution. All
users of e2fsprogs are urged to upgrade to the 1.19 version as soon as
possible.
This release has a few critical bug fixes over the previous release,
version 1.18.
Some of the key features of this release:
Release the resize2fs program since the timeout before it could
publish it under the GPL has finally expired.
Add experimental support needed for the ext2 compression patches.
This requires compiling e2fsprogs with the --enable-compression flag
to the configure script.
Added internationalization support for e2fsprogs; must be enabled
by passing --enable-nls to configure. (Folks who are interested in
tackling translating e2fsprogs's message catalog, please let me
know.)
Improved the loop detection algorithm in e2sck's pass #3 so that it is
much, much faster for large filesystems with a large number of
directories.
Added non-destructive write testing to the badblocks program, courtesy
of David Beattie. The badblocks also now has an option to input the
current set of bad blocks, so that known bad blocks are skipped to
speed up the badblocks test. There is also a persistent rescan
feature that causes badblocks to run some number of passes until the
set of bad blocks is no longer grows.
For more details, see the release notes, which are available at:
http://e2fsprogs.sourceforge.net/e2fsprogs-release.html

Crash Recovery Kit for Linux? Yes, indeed, although linux is one
of the most stable OS-es available, there can be sometimes
the need to recover/test/examine your PC.
Versions are available for RedHat version 4.x, 5.x and 6.x .
Kernel version are from 2.0.29 upto 2.2.13. A bootable iso cdimage
exists for RedHat 5.x. I'm working on a iso for RedHat 6.x.
You don't need to have RedHat installed on your PC to use the CRK.
The floppy's can be used on any intel based PC or system.
The Crash Recovery Kit for Linux can be found on
