Subject: New RPMs for sgmltools-lite available!
Date: Fri, 30 Jun 2000 09:40:33 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
I have taken a snapshot of the current CVS tree for sgmltools-lite,
tweaked it to fit into a Red Hat 6.2 standard installation and created
an RPM package.
I have also created a package containing EPS versions of the icons
included with Norman Walsh's DocBook stylesheets. You will need these
to produce PS documents using sgmltools-lite.
Together, these two packages should make installation of sgmltools-lite
extremely easy for users of Red Hat and compatible distributions. Get the
packages, install them using rpm -i, and everything should be ready.
All files are available from http://www.sedacon.com/download/:
http://www.sedacon.com/download/sgmltools-lite-3.0.1.cvs20000625-1.i386.rpm
http://www.sedacon.com/download/nw-eps-icons.0.0.1-1.noarch.rpm
These are the md5sums to verify package integrity:

Date: Fri, 30 Jun 2000 09:47:58 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Remind is a full-featured calendar/reminder program featuring
sophisticated date calculation, moon phases, sunrise/sunset, Hebrew
calendar, alarms, PostScript output, X front-end, multilingual
messages, and proper handling of holidays. Available for Linux and other
UNIX-like platforms. Includes scripts for making a nice WWW calendar
server. Remind is licensed under the GNU GPL.
Remind's home page and download area are at:
http://www.roaringpenguin.com/remind.html
Changes since 3.0.21:
MINOR ENHANCEMENTS
Added option to have TkRemind display all of today's reminders in a text
box on startup. This option is on by default.
Makefile in "www" directory allows you to add ".cgi" suffix to CGI
scripts.
Added option to completely delete a reminder from the reminder file in
the timed reminder popup dialog.
Clarified build instructions.
BUG FIXES
Fixed packing order in TkRemind so resizing window doesn't make control
buttons disappear.
Fixed serious bug in which background queued reminders were ignored and
Remind simply exited. Doh! Sorry about that.

KFileMerge is a tool for visualising differences in text files and for
easy merging of those.
After having to do a lot of merging with tools like mgdiff I decided to
write some tool that better suits my needs.
KFileMerge is under the GPL and supports a LINE-MODE where you can
select every single line (and reorder them) in the source files (even
lines in the same diff block) and the possibility to set markers which
you can directly jump to in the integrated editor.
It originally was named KMerge but I think I was a little too slow ...

Subject: OnStream SC-x0 tape driver (beta) available
Date: Fri, 30 Jun 2000 09:58:01 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Hi,
I have the pleasure to send this announcement:
osst-0.8.0 released
There is good news for users that bought OnStream-SCx0 tape drives and want
to use it with Linux.
Unfortunately those tapes do not implement all the standard SCSI commands
for Serial Storage Access Devices (read: tapes), so the standard st driver
fails to operate them.
There has been a project to create a Linux driver for these devices,
initiated by OnStream. The work could be based on the Gadi Oxman's driver
for the OnStream IDE tape (DI-30), which already got integrated into the
mainstream kernel. Additionally, Terry Hardie had written a userspace
program osg using the sg onterface to access the OnStream tapes.
A real driver is released into the beta test now: osst-0.8.0.
It's a kernelspace driver, giving applications (almost) the same interface
as the st driver via the new /dev/osst* and /dev/nosst* device nodes.
Technically, it has been realized as a fifth SCSI high-level driver. The new
device nodes have major 206 and have been registered with HPA. The tapes use
a fixed blocksize of 32k.
The on-tape format should be compatible to the one used by the IDE driver,
osg and the Wind*ws software, as it's specified by OnStream specs. However,
the filemark handling has been optimized recently, so there may be some
incompatibilities wrt those.
Currently, the driver only supports 2.2 kernels, but this will be fixed
soon.
The major part of the code has been written by Willem Riede, based on Kai
Mikasara's st driver. Some fixes and framework has been done by me.
Thanks also go to the OnStream staff (especially Jack Bombeeck), SuSE (for
supporting me to work on it), and everybody who did support this project by
discussing about driver issues, testing the alpha versions, submitting
patches ...
Find out more about the driver on
http://linux1.onstream.nl/test/
and more about the tape drives on
http://www.onstream.com/server/sc50.html
On the driver's page, you will find more info on how to use the driver.
There is a tarball for download and also RPMs (compiled for a glibc-2.1
based system with 2.2.16 kernel) are available. The included README will
give you some more hints.
Please test and send bug reports to osst@linux1.onstream.nl

We are happy to announce the release of Vectorlinux-1.0. This is the first
stable release since its first public release back in February of 2000. In
a nutshell Vectorlinux is small linux distribution aimed at those that wish
to homebrew or build there own linux from a very stable base. This is not
another floppy linux, dos linux or loop linux but a full fledged ext2
partition distro with most of the fluff cut out. The distribution includes
the X window system with icewm as the window manager. Built around
glibc-2.1.3, it includes a full development environment with both gcc and
g++ 2.95.2 and most of the common libraries and programs needed to compile
source code. There is also a ftp server, most network utilities, email and
news clients, irc and icq clients, netscape, xmms, and a host of other
applications.Remarkably it installs using only 160 megs of disk space and
should run quite nicely with only 16 megs of ram. For further details and
download install instructions go to the ectorlinux website:
http://metalab.unc.edu/vectorlinux
Thank you and have fun,
The vectorlinux team
