Linux for servers:
Trustix Secure Linux (TSL) is a new os Linux distribution. It is done
by using carefully selected components from well-known reliable sources
like the GNU Project and the Linux Kernel in addition to software
created specifically for Trustix. The security is
improved from other distributions. TSL is designed for servers, so only
packages needed for a server are used. This means fewer potential
security holes. Of course,
updates are a important subjekt here. The TSL website will have the
current versions of the distribution packages available. It is, of
course, for free.

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Hi,
I'm pleased to announce availability of Cyrus smlacapd, version 0.4.
This is a full-featured, stable ACAP server, with multiple
authentication methods and compatibility with at least one shipping
application (the Mulberry e-mail client).
ACAP, the Application Configuration Access Protocol, is a remote store
for preferences, addressbooks, bookmarks, and other data useful to be
accessible for mobile users and across applications. It is described
in RFC 2244.
The Cyrus smlacapd server is partially written in SML, a high-level
strongly typed functional language. Binaries for Linux and Solaris
are provided, and compiling SML/NJ should be straightforward.
Download the server at:
ftp://ftp.andrew.cmu.edu/pub/cyrus-mail/cyrus-smlacapd-0.4.tar.gz
Binaries are available in:
ftp://ftp.andrew.cmu.edu/pub/cyrus-mail/
Please send all bugs and/or comments to cyrus-bugs+@andrew.cmu.edu.
Discussion on the Cyrus acapd should be directored towards
info-cyrus@andrew.cmu.edu (subscribe info-cyrus-request@andrew.cmu.edu).
Thanks,
Larry

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Listing kernel compile-time configuration via /proc/config
==========================================================
/proc/config patch (update) for kernel 2.2.*
Proconfig 0.8.4 (Kernel 2.2.15)
Modified original announcement:
--------------------------------
I've released a comprehensive patch to support listing the kernel
compilation options via /proc/config. It's at the addresses below.
This makes kernel image administration easy if you compile a lot of
kernels or admin a lot of machines, as I do. I do believe this is
the definitive version. Try
echo -n 2 > /proc/config # turn it on
echo -n 0 > /proc/config # turn it off
echo -n 1 > /proc/config # turn it "half-on"
cat /proc/config # list it
CONFIG_M586=y
CONFIG_X86_WP_WORKS_OK=y
CONFIG_X86_INVLPG=y
...
The patch configures by default as a tiny kernel rump of 3-5K, plus
a magic module that's now loaded and unloaded automatically when
the internal signatures are first translated to variable names for
display (self-erasing code = cute).
The patch integrates with the kernel Makefiles, so it shows up
conveniently under make menuconfig and friends.
Changes
0.8.4 - Self-loading and -removing config_data.
Thanks to Rogier Wolfe and Tigran Aivazian for
help in simulating syscall from userspace within kernel.
Use echo -n "2" now for fully on, "1" for half on. Moved
to kernel 2.2.15.
0.8.3 - following discussions with Michael Chastain
now force scripts/kconfig.tk to be built and then
scan it. Thanks to Werner Almesberger for helpful
notes too. This approach is comprehensive.
0.8.2 - added on/off switch via echo -n "0" >/proc/config
(security and saves about 1K temporarily while off).
integrated CONFIG_* search with kernel mkdep.c
0.8.1 - minor cosmetic buglet fixed.
replaced shell scripts by C programs.
unified 2.3.44 and 2.2.13 config.c code
issued initial patch (0.9) for 2.3.44
Download: ftp://oboe.it.uc3m.es/pub/Programs/proconfig-0.8.4.tgz
Homepage: http://www.it.uc3m.es/~ptb/proconfig/
I'll update the 2.3.44 patch shortly: 0.9.4 won't be announced as
people here aren't following 2.3.*. Incidentally, you can generate
the patch yourselves: the resulting files are the same.

TkUsr is a small program that allows you to manage the Self-mode of
USR/3Com Message/Professional modems. You can use it to retrieve voice
messages and faxes. It features smart retrieving with a cache system,
so you do not have to download the whole memory when you only want a
single fax.
(Depends on Tcl/Tk 8.0+)

Subject: Jungle Monkey 0.1.6 - distributed file transfer program
Date: Wed, 17 May 2000 17:51:16 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Jungle Monkey 0.1.6 ("Curious George") is now available. This release
contains chat, documentation, improved network configuration, and many
bug and stability fixes.
JM is available at http://www.junglemonkey.net
Jungle Monkey (JM) is a distributed file sharing program. You join
channels where people offer files for download. You can offer your
own files and create your own channels as well. Once you download a
file, others can connect to you to get that file. You can also search
for files and chat.
HELP WANTED: My old Red Hat package builder lost his fast connection
for the summer. Please contact me (dhelder@umich.edu) if you're
interested in building them. It's easy - just do 'make rpm' as root
in the source directory.
0.1.6 ("Curious George" release)
- -----
* Chat
* Documentation (also integrated in Gnome version, also on web site)
* Improved network configurations including configurable port
* Portability fixes for NetBSD
