Subject: Cactus 4.0 Beta 6 - solving systems of partial differential equations
Date: Wed, 26 Apr 2000 22:02:25 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Hi,
this is to announce the release of beta 7 of Cactus 4.0.
Cactus is a general, modular, parallel code for solving systems of partial
differential equations. The code has been developmented over many years by
a large international collaboration of numerical relativity and
computational science research groups and can be used to provide a
portable platform for solving any system of partial differential
equations. The code compiles and runs on a variety of different
platforms, from laptops running Linux or NT to clusters of workstations,
to large T3Es, with no modifications needing to be made to the application
codes.
As an example, one set of modules (thorns) can be used to solve problems
in numerical relativity, for example black hole or neutron star
collisions. The design of the code and the thorns means that general
routines can be written, for example to locate the position of the event
horizon, which can then be made generally available and used for other
problems.
The code is available from
http://www.cactuscode.org
Notes for this release can be found at
http://www.cactuscode.org/Development/beta7.txt
For further information, email
cactusmaint@cactuscode.org
Have fun,
Tom

netenv 0.9
Do you use a laptop in different network environments ?
At home ? In the office ? At a customers site ?
If yes, the small package "netenv" might be useful for you. When
booting your laptop it provides you with a simple interface from
which you can choose the current network environment. If you are
the first time in an environment, you can enter the basic data
for later reuse.
New in 0.9: netenv available as Debian .deb _and_ as Redhat .rpm
You will find the whole story at
http://netenv.sourceforge.net
Please send questions or suggestions to

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
This is an announcement for the LugTalk mailing-list, hosted by the
Baton Rouge Linux User Group (BRLUG).
LugTalk is meant to be a forum for LUG coordinators to discuss future
events, meeting topics, and other related information. This forum will
also be a great way to for inter-LUG communication on issues such as
joint events and national and global events.
The mailing-list is just a normal majordomo list, so send your
subscription to majordomo@brlug.net, with the text:
subscribe lugtalk
end
The list messages are not currently available on the group's site, but
that will be fixed soon. I am looking forward to making archives of
the list available at http://www.brlug.net/lugtalk within a month.
Again, this is really just a simple list created by a LUG so that
LUG's everywhere will have a mailing-list that they can use to
communicate with one another. The list will be not be moderated unless
it becomes necessary. Send inquiries to me at dpuryear@usa.net,
thanks!

MEETING NOTICE
==============
Central Ohio Linux Users Group
Saturday, Apr 29th., 1300 to 1500 local
Meeting Presentation
====================
The main presentation:
There have been snippets of development this month:
The weather magnet project is producing preliminary results.
Particularly impressive is that the author actually wrote an
expanded problem definition _before_ coding. And better than that,
it uses O-O perl in this _first_ coding project by this newbie coder.
Impressive. Who says that you _have_ to develop bad habits?
The old hosts usage project has a tentative name, and
will be discussed (It's a secret until the domain registrations
are complete -- come to the meeting to hear more).
The [COLUG-LUNCH] mailer is up and running, and informal
intra-month get-togethers have become quite popular. The data transfer
rate at these 1 hour sessions can only be called 'blistering'.
As always (both with the informal nature of the group's
`management' and the vaguries of the presenters' schedules),
the agenda and content are subject to change.
Additionally, the _formal_ meeting ends at the stated time.
We've noticed that folks continue to stand around in the parking lot
for _hours_. We'll probably adjourn to a local watering hole,
to slake thirst and sit down.
MEETING SITE:
=============
This month's meeting will be held at:
TEAM America (http://www.teamamerica.com)
110 East Wilson Bridge Road
Worthington, OH 43085
(614) 848-3995
The building is at US23 North and 270 off of
East Wilson Bridge Road just around the first
curve.
Parking is FREE !
.... The group has met on the LAST Wednesday or LAST Saturday
of a month, alternating by month to allow more folks to mesh
their schedules with COLUG's. Sites and dates also depend
on facility availabity, with common-sense relocation in the
holiday season.
The webpage always has a link to a map to the upcoming meeting
site. See: http://stones.wcbe.org/~COLUG/meetings.php3
Meeting Schedule
================
The NEXT meeting is scheduled on Wednesday, May 31,
2000 from 19:00 to 21:00 local -- Location is up in the air --
we've pretty well outgrown the kindly donated TeamAmerica site,
although we continue to 'shoe-horn' in until a suitable
replacement is found.

Nice. And what's new ?
======================
* completely new Mahjongg game driver
* fixed a bad memory leak (when will there finally be a real
garbage collector in Python ???)
Cool. Where can I get it ?
==========================
Point your browser to http://pysol.tsx.org
The PySol Gallery is awaiting your visit as well.
What do I need to start playing ?
=================================
PySol requires Python 1.5.2 and Tcl/Tk 8.0.5. Both packages are
