=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
I'm pleased to announce a new version of dump/restore, the Linux ext2 fs
backup utilities.
This version contains several small fixes and a big one intended
to Linux/Alpha users (read the Changelog below).
Stelian.
Changelog follows:
Changes between versions 0.4b11 and 0.4b12 (released January 8, 1999)
=====================================================================
1. Small fix in the dump man page. Thanks to Thorsten Kukuk
<kukuk@suse.de> for submitting the patch.
2. Fix for the exit code when using the size estimate option of
dump. Thanks to Matti Taskinen <mkt@rni.helsinki.fi> for
submitting the patch.
3. Handle EINTR in atomical reads/writes in dump, which was causing
dump to fail on some systems. Thanks to Eric Jergensen
<eric@dvns.com> for reporting the bug and submitting the patch.
4. Handle more than 16 characters for the device names in dumpdates.
(up to 255 now). Thanks to Rainer Clasen <bj@ncc.cicely.de> for
tracking down the problem and proposing the solution.
5. Fixed a bug in dump which prevented the creation of the
dumpdates file when doing a 0-level dump without already
having a dumpdates file. Thanks to Patrik Schindler
<poc@pocnet.net> for reporting the bug.
6. Changed the way dump 'S' flag reports the size estimate
from number of blocks into bytes (making it compatible
with the Solaris version, and simplifying things for
amanda users). Thanks to Jason L Tibbitts III
<tibbs@math.uh.edu> for reporting the bug.
7. Fixed a compatibility problem in linux/alpha dump tape format.
Now the linux/alpha dump are (again) compatible with the
other dump formats. But this breaks compatibility with
older dumps made on alpha. Thanks to Mike Tibor
<tibor@lib.uaa.alaska.edu> for helping me in finding this bug.

Subject: apcupsd-3.7.0-beta3 - APC UPS monitoring daemon
Date: Tue, 11 Jan 2000 22:18:40 GMT
Reply-To: riccardo@master.oasi.gpa.it
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Hello,
This message is to announce the third and last beta version of the Year 2000
apcupsd release:
apcupsd-3.7.0-beta3
This third beta version has undergone a huge amount of debugging.
Apcupsd is a daemon for monitoring APC UPSes. It is able to detect power
failures and shutdown the computer if the UPS power is getting too low.
It is able to shutdown multiple networked computers powered by a single
UPS with the monitoring UPS informing the others via the network.
- - Where you can find it?
ftp://ftp.oasi.gpa.it/pub/apcupsd/development/apcupsd-3.7.0-beta3.tar.gz
- - Highlights of this release.
.. Bug fixes and enhancements: too many to tell them all
- - This is a call for testers.
This is the third beta version of what will be released as apcupsd-3.7.0.
The code freeze is in place and will last for a week. In this time we
will address the last few problems that may still be present.
The software is completely developed under Linux and will compile cleanly
and will work under linux.
Porting has been addressed for Solaris and this platform should work.
Porting is being addressed for HP-UX, where the actual code should compile
cleanly and, due to the changes made for Solaris, should work as well.
If you own an APC UPS attached to a Linux machine or you want to realize a
setup like this, or you are already a user of an older version of apcupsd
and you have even a machine on which to install this version, please step
forward. We need testers and any bug report will be more than welcome.
If you own a Solaris or HP-UX machine and you want to attach an APC UPS to
it and try this version of apcupsd, probably you will find that
apcupsd is the best UPS monitoring tool for you.
- - What to do if you find bugs
send an e-mail to one of the developers
or
send an e-mail to apcupsd-devel@ro.com (Developers mailing list)
or
go to the Apcupsd Support Center http://www.brisse.dk/site/apcupsd/
and leave a message (at this time should be the last resort because Brian
is moving and doesn't have time to manage incoming e-mail).
- - Changes from 3.7.0-beta2 to 3.7.0-beta3
Bumped version to beta3 and released.
Applied kern diffs, see techlogs/kes09Jan00
Changed clean_threads() in apcexec.c not hang on waitpid, and make
sure we do all we can to kill the childs.
Updated INSTALL file to make clear that prior to install a new version
of apcupsd over an old version, is advisable to make uninstall.
Corrected a syntax error in distributions/*/apccontrol.sh.in.
Changed suse halt.local script to:
. do something only if a powerdown is detected.
. kill the processes before remounting read only the filesystems.
Corrected a minor cosmetic (-Wall) in apcnetd.c
Added -Wall to default CFLAGS.
Applied kern diffs, see techlogs/kes06Jan00
Kern minor changes to configure.in.
Thanks to Tom Schroll, corrected an execv nasty error in apcexec.c.
Applied kern diffs, see techlogs/kes30Dec99
Warning: if you are using the new network information server, please upgrade
all your machines or remove the old machines from hosts.config since the
network protocols betweek beta2 and beta3 are not compatible.
That's all for now.
Ciao,
Riccardo.

LinuxTag 2000
Stuttgart, Germany - 29th of June to 2nd of July
<URL:http://www.linuxtag.org/>
Having 5000 to 7000 visitors in the year 1999 LinuxTag was the largest Linux
exhibition in Europe. The audience we adress are people who use computers in
private, educational or business oriented settings, putting an emphasis
on those having little experience using Linux. During the days from Friday to
Sunday in addition to the exhibition talks will be given. As in the year 1999
the event will be free of charge both for the exhibition and the talks. The
talk should take about an hour of time.
All topics around Unix/Linux are of interest, especially those who let the
beginner get acquainted with Linux and its tools, e.g.
- - Introduction to Linux/Unix
- - Presentation of programs and their configuration.
- - Real life experiences using Linux.
- - Presentation of distributions or concepts, that might be interesting for
end users.
- - System Administration.
- - Introduction to scripting languages.
- - Programming under Linux.
The program of LinuxTag 99 can be found at
http://www.linuxtag.org/tagungsprogramm.html
and might give you an idea of what we expect.
The lecturers are expected to give a written outline of their talk. This
outline will be published on the LinuxTag CD-ROM and, later on, in the Web.
Additionally there is the possibility of publishing the outline in a
magazine.
Travel expenses will be refunded.
If you are interested, you are invited to send in an abstract of about
150 words describing the content, the intention and the target group of
your talk.
Language: German or English

and also about how one can participate in the KDE-project,
either as a developer or tester.
The meeting will take place between 6 and 9pm at Nortullsgatan 12k,
near Odenplan. There will of course be no entrance fee and all
interested Linux-users are welcome.

Subject: pyCA-0.6.3 - tools for setting up a certificate authority
Date: Tue, 11 Jan 2000 22:35:39 GMT
Reply-To: pyca@ms.inka.de
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
HI!
I would like to announce a new beta release of my package pyCA, a set of
scripts and CGI-BIN programs written in Python for setting up and
running a X.509 certificate authority using OpenSSL.
See
http://www.pyca.de/
for more details.
Note: This will be the last feature release in the 0.6.x series. Only
bug fixes will be added in this branch. The upcoming release 0.7.0 and
above will be incompatible to 0.6.x installations.
Plans for 0.7.0
- - based on M2Crypto (a Python module for accessing the OpenSSL libs)
- - database support for storing cert and user data
- - replacement for "openssl ca" command
- - localization support for different character sets
This may take a while...
Ciao, Michael.
Changes since 0.6.2:
- - Many small bugfixes and small enhancements
