Subject: X/RTA 0.30 - Audio Real Time Analyzer
Date: Thu, 6 Jan 2000 18:59:50 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
X/RTA Audio Real Time Analyzer for X
Version 0.30 of X/RTA is now available. Changes is this version
include code optimization and the addition of sixth octave analysis,
plus various bug fixes.
X/RTA is a constant percentage bandwidth real time analyzer for acoustical
measurements. It uses digital filters to do octave band and fractional
octave band filtering of the audio spectrum.
The signal processing unit is written in C. The interface is written
in Tcl/Tk, with the Blt toolkit. As Tcl is a scripting language, this
makes the creation of sequences of tests straightforward.
In its current state, with X/RTA you can perform octave, third octave,
and sixth octave analysis with A and C-weighted SPL, save and recall data files,
and print data (using gs or ghostview). Thus you can measure and tune
a home theatre, commercial cinema, hi-fi, public address system, etc.
REQUIREMENTS
Linux x86, 2.xx
Pentium 133 or better
sound card capable of sampling at 48 kHz
The homepage for X/RTA is http://www.nbn.com/~holmes/xrtamain.html.

From: Ullrich von Bassewitz <uz@musoftware.de>
Subject: cc65 - a C crosscompiler for 6502 based systems
Date: Thu, 6 Jan 2000 19:02:00 GMT
Reply-To: uz@musoftware.de
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
I'm proud to announce version 2.3 of CC65, a C crosscompiler /
crossassembler combo for 6502 systems.
CC65 has C and runtime library support for most CBM machines, and -
thanks to the great work of Kevin Ruland - for the Apple ][. The
libraries are fairly portable, so creating a version for other 6502s
shouldn't be too much work.
Here is a list of the compiler features:
* Includes a C compiler, macro assembler, archiver, linker and a
frontend (compile & link) utility. The assembler generates
relocatable object files, the linker is very configurable and allows
overlays, ROMable code, splitted output and much more.
* The compiler is not quite ISO compatible, however, a large subset
is supported.
* Supported target systems are:
- C64
- C128
- C16, C116, Plus/4
- CBM 600/700 family (programs run in bank 1)
- Newer PET machines (not 2001)
- The Apple ][
For all these systems a precompiled runtime and C library is
available. Supporting more targets is not very difficult since the C
library was written with portability in mind.
* Several system specific support routines like a conio library or
modules for joystick access are available.
* The assembler and linker do also support the 65816 as a target,
however, the compiler is not able to generate code for this CPU and
there is no RTL support.
* Lots of docs and a few sample programs included.
* Easy interfacing between C code and assembler.
* Fullscreen debugger for most machines as a linkable module.
* Full sourcecode available as well as binaries for
- Linux (RedHat 6.1 and 5.x RPM)
- DOS
- Windows 95/98/NT
What is new in this version:
* Several bugs fixed.
* Several new bugs introduced.
* Faster and shorter code.
* Support for the Apple ][.
Support for some features is still missing. To name a few:
* No floats.
* No file routines. Actually, most stdio routines are there, but the
low level file I/O is missing, so you get linker errors if you try to
use them with files.
* The 80 column mode on the C128 is not supported by the conio library.
* ACE is no longer supported. The old code is still there, but I had
not the time to keep it current.
More information:
For your convenience, I've put all doc files also on the web server:
http://www.von-bassewitz.de/uz/cc65/doc/
The cc65 main page
http://www.von-bassewitz.de/uz/cc65/
will get updated to reflect the new version in the next few days.
There is also a cc65 mailing list. To subscribe, send a mail to
majordomo@musoftware.de with the command
subscribe cc65
in the body of the mail.
Help:
Any help is appreciated! There are still areas, where the package is
incomplete, expecially when it comes to the libraries. If you think about
investing some time, here's a todo list:
* File routines for the CBM systems are still missing. The C library
uses a layered approach, so there are only 4 routines needed to get
most of the higher level stuff up and running. All that is needed are
C compatible open/close/read/write functions.
* Support for the 80 column mode on the C128.
* Support for ACE or other systems (VIC20, PET, even an Atari version
shouldn't be too difficult).
* A graphics library. The Plus/4 has a 320*200 mode that is very
compatible the C64 and C128. With some clever programming it should
be possible to write something that translates for all three
platforms without changes.
Available packages:
As usual I will provide the complete sources and several binary packages
binaries. There's a binary RPM for RedHat which is probably the fastest
way to get going if you're running RedHat Linux. Since this is also my
development platform, new features and bug fixes are first available for
Linux.
Binaries for DOS and and Windows will follow or may already be available
at the time you read this. While the sources do still compile under OS/2,
I have dropped support for OS/2 binaries, since were almost no downloads
of the OS/2 version.

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Genparse is a generic command line parser generator. From simple and
concise specification file, you can define the command line parameters
and switches that you would like to be able to pass to your program.
Genparse creates the C or C++ code of the parser for you, which you can then
compile as a separate file and link with your program.
Version 0.4 features a complete re-write, which fixes a number of minor bugs,
but is still backwards compatible with 0.3. Also new is support of C++ output.
The distribution also includes a 30 page manual.

0.8.1 fixes a critical bug in the balance window which was introduced
with the recent Y2K fixes.
We've also added a German language translation file, included button
bar in translated strings, added a "by payee" report, increased the
configurability of text colors in transaction list box, fixed an
install problem with png icons for the html manual, and fixed a
problem with the get-latest version script.
You can download this latest version from the CBB web page:

Jan 1, 2000
Announcing the release of Xquote 2.0. This release contains
enhancements that allow separate servers for each ticker symbol,
improvements to parsing of penny stocks, and improvements to the popup
menus.
Check out the Xinvest home page at http://sunsite.auc.dk/xinvest/.
Here you can find the latest source and Linux binary along with other
helpful information on using Xquote and Xinvest.
Primary Site -> http://sunsite.auc.dk/xinvest/
The XPM library -> ftp://ftp.x.org/contrib/libraries
LessTif (Motif clone) -> http://www.lesstif.org/
==========================================================================
What is Xquote?
- ----------------
Xquote is a WWW ticker symbol quote retrieval program for UNIX systems
using the X Window System. Xquote requires Motif 1.2 or later and XPM.
Xquote retrieves quotes from a number of net sources. It takes a ticker
symbol (stock, mutual fund, currency) and displays info in a table or
ticker tape. The table data displayed is selectable, and includes price,
date, change, volume, yield, 52 week high/low, day high/low, P/E,
dividend, full name, basically whatever can be reliably retrieved from
multiple sources.
The good part Xquote communicates this information to Xinvest
automatically (if its running).
New servers can be added without rebuilding, just update X resources and
the new server or format is supported.
Xquote supports X11R5 (CDE 1.x) and X11R6 session management. Xquote
will start off just as you left it! With manual session management, you
no longer need a session manager to save your ticker symbols and other
setup.
Hopefully, all of this is displayed using an easy-to-use,
point-and-click interface. There are few command line switches, no dot
files, and X resources are limited to color and font selection allowing
you to tailor the look of the tool to your own preferences.
