Process Monitor HOWTO Version 3.0 released --
(Mission critical control systems)

To ensure 100% uptime of mission critical linux(unix)
processes, use program 'procautostart'. The details of
this program is given in Process Monitor HOWTO. This
document also describes many other tools and products
(open source code as well as commercial products) for
linux/unix systems for process monitor and control.

The program 'procautostart' can monitor any critical
process like Web server, database server upto few
seconds or few milli-seconds or even few nano-seconds
and restart the process if it dies. The program can
also
generate "ALARM", invoke pager, email or other GUI
console program if the mission critical process dies.

Programs like 'procautostart' can enable Linux (or
unix) to be used for controlling mission critical
systems like Nuclear power plants, chemical industries
or even Jumbo Jetliners!! Linux is a "rock solid"
system much better than most operating systems.

You can get the Process Monitor HOWTO at -
http://www.aldev.8m.com

To download the "C" program source code, at the above
site "Left Mouse Button" click on "Source code zip
file called procmon.zip". On linux use 'unzip' program
to unpack the file.

This document will also be available from sunsite next
month at LDP project.

Suggestions and comments are welcome from expert "C"
programmers.

al dev

Subject: Sing Along Disc Player 2.0.0 - text-mode+X
Date: Tue, 28 Dec 1999 21:05:47 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

Hello, and Happy New Millennium.

The first release of SADP was a year ago, 26-Dec-98.
It was soon overshadowed by xsadp, and practically
was not maintained since release of xsadp-2.0.0.

For a long time a had to apologise for text version of SADP.
Now the situation is the opposite. The new release of
SADP is concentrated on the text version, which
eventually got a support of remote CD data bases,
run-time gain, wave scale control and more.
Takes advantage of ncurses 5.0, very friendly to 4.2,
and tries to get the best it can out of a buggy 1.9.9g.

There are only negligible changes to GUI version:
- - Fixed bug with "NO DSP" support. Version 2.1.1
did not compile if DSP support was disabled
- - Added short message after saving and restoring
    settings and data.

  ------------------------------------------------------------------------

So what do we have now ?

Sing-Along Disc Player - a compact disc player for Linux and X

Features: spectrum analyser, oscilloscope, built-in mixer,
browserless support of remote CD data bases, and more..

Now with text-mode and X version in a single package
Size of the package 271K - only about 50K more that
GUI-only version 2.1.1 !

  ------------------------------------------------------------------------

SADP home page:
    http://www.alphalink.com.au/~michg/ace/sadp/

US mirror site:
    http://acelin.webjump.com/sadp/

New exciting SADP features to come in 21st century!
Your suggestions are extremely welcomed.

Subject: xnetload 1.7.0 network traffic monitor for X
Date: Tue, 28 Dec 1999 21:28:17 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

With xnetload, you can monitor the traffic through a network connection
in an X window.

Version 1.7.0 is now available at the homepage, and will in time be
available on Metalab.

The greatest change is that the old ip-accounting support has been
removed (not necessary anymore with the 2.2 kernels). Furthermore, some
command-line options (and equivalent resources) have been added, and
some bugs have been removed.

The LSM is included below:

Begin3
Title: xnetload
Version: 1.7.0
Entered-date: 28DEC1999
Description: Xnetload displays packet traffic and uptime in an X window.
It requires the /proc file system. It also works with new 2.2
kernels, where it will display bytes/s instead of packets/s.
The graph displays log10 of the byte count, or kilobytes
to avoid problems with the StripChart widget flooding with
lines. The MD5 sum for the package is:
