Rel is a program that scans text files, (like email repositories, web
pages, or man pages, for example,) in a manner similar to grep(1),
only the program outputs a list of files in order of relevance to a
search criteria. The search criteria is specified by Boolean operators
on the command line, (and, or, not,) and includes grouping operators,
(the syntax is infix notation, ie., identical to TI calculators.)

So, bottom line, one can scan the man pages to find out something like
which command lists directories:

        rel "(directory & listing)" /usr/share/man/cat1

will list a few tens of files, out of the hundreds of catman files, of
which "ls.1" is the among the most relevant-meaning at the top of the
list.

There were no code or documentation changes-only the home site
changed.

The program's home site is at http://www.johncon.com/nformatix/

PySol - a Solitaire Game Collection
                              Version 3.10

              http://wildsau.idv.uni-linz.ac.at/mfx/pysol.html

              Copyright (C) 1998, 1999 Markus F.X.J. Oberhumer

What is PySol ?
===============

PySol is an exciting collection of 128 solitaire card games.

Among the supported games are classics like Aces Up, Baker's Game,
Canfield, FreeCell, Forty Thieves, Golf, Klondike, Monte Carlo,
Osmosis, Pyramid, Scorpion, Spider, Yukon, and many more...

PySol may be freely distributed under the terms of the GNU GPL.

PySol aims to be Commercial Quality Freeware.

Why yet another solitaire game ?
================================

Here are some highlights of PySol:

  - currently supports 128 (!) distinct solitaire variants
  - based upon an extensible solitaire engine
  - very nice look and feel including multiple cardsets
    and background table tiles
  - unlimited undo & redo
  - load & save games
  - player statistics and log files
  - hint system
  - demo games
  - support for user written plug-ins - add your own solitaire variants
  - integrated HTML help browser
  - lots of documentation
  - fully portable across Unix/X11, Windows 95/98/NT and MacOS
  - written in 100% pure Python
  - just run it - no need to compile anything
  - freely available
  - distributed under the GNU GPL with full source code

Yeah, I know. But what's new ?
==============================

  * Implemented 17 new games.

  * Added sound support including samples and background MP3/MOD music.
Sound is implemented by a rather generic server (a C program) using
the SDL library for low-level mixing and playing.

  * Wrote some really fancy tree dialogs - Python programmers will
    definitely love these :-)

  * Added 19 great cardsets to pysol-cardsets. Many thanks to T. Kirk.

Cool. Where can I get it ?
==========================

Point your browser to http://wildsau.idv.uni-linz.ac.at/mfx/pysol.html
The PySol Gallery is awaiting your visit as well.

What do I need to start playing ?
=================================

PySol requires Python 1.5.2 and Tcl/Tk 8.0.5. Both packages are
freely available for Unix, Windows 95/98/NT and Macintosh.

BTW, there is no need to compile anything since the whole program is just
a Python script. Just run it, and that's all.

Contributions
=============

I'm looking for people who want to contibute new games, provide
additional graphics, scan cardset packs, improve the docs, etc.
Please see the README in the distribution about details.

License terms
=============

PySol is Copyright (C) 1998, 1999 Markus Franz Xaver Johannes Oberhumer

PySol is distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL).
See the file COPYING.

Have fun,
Markus

Subject: xzgv 0.2 - picture viewer for X with thumbnail-based file selector
Date: Fri, 24 Dec 1999 20:22:39 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

[I (Russell Marks) *do* now have net access :-), but it's in rather a
state of flux at the moment so Steven is still dealing with this on my
behalf.]

xzgv 0.2's been uploaded to metalab.unc.edu. It's a picture viewer for
X, with a thumbnail-based file selector. It uses GTK+ and Imlib. Most
file formats are supported, and the thumbnails used are compatible
with xv, zgv, and the Gimp. It can also be used with `xzgv file(s)',
to effectively bypass the file selector.

xzgv differs from other picture viewers for X in that it uses one
window for both the file selector and viewer, it (unlike xv) allows
both scrolling and fit-to-window methods of viewing large pictures,
and it (unlike xv and some others) doesn't ever mangle the picture's
aspect ratio. It also provides extensive keyboard support; if you
prefer using the keyboard, this is almost certainly the best viewer
for you. But it doesn't skimp on the mousey stuff, either. So anyway,
it's just terribly great. :-)

There are several useful additions/changes in 0.2 relative to 0.1, but
probably the most noticeable (other than new icons and stuff :-)) is
that thumbnail generation is very much faster. Some timings I ran for
this on a 400-file directory should give you the idea:

zgv 5.0: 1:52
xzgv 0.1: 2:03
xzgv 0.2: 0:55
xv 3.10a: 0:58
ee 0.3: 0:56 (not xv format thumbnails, though)

So it's a lot faster than it was. Now I just have to work out why zgv
is so much slower... :-/

** New features

Generation of thumbnails is *much* faster. This is partly due to
inclusion of the JPEG speedup code contributed to zgv (way back when)
by Costa Sapuntzakis, and partly due to a generic adaptation of that
approach I've added which is now used for all other files. xzgv should
now generate thumbnails at a similar speed to xv overall - it's a bit
faster on JPEGs, but a bit slower on other files.

Added recursive thumbnail update. One problem with this is that it
reads all existing thumbnails in a dir before updating (like xv, IIRC)
to try and avoid having a really ugly selector during the update :-),
though you can disable this with `--fast-recursive-update' or an
equivalent config file line.

Added `-g'/`--geometry' option (and config file setting), which lets
you set the xzgv window's geometry in the usual X fashion. As an
extension, all positions/sizes can be given as percentages of the
screen size, e.g. `92%x85%'.

Now has tagging - `-' untags, `=' tags, and with Alt (Meta) they
untag/tag all. As for the mouse, ctrl-click tags/untags, and there's
now a File menu which has items for tag/untag, and tag/untag all. From
the viewer, you can tag (though not untag) with ctrl-space, which tags
the current file then moves to the next image. One problem with
tagging is that, at the moment, only the new `-T' (or `--show-tagged')
option takes any notice of whether a file is tagged or not. :-) Copy,
move, and (multi-file) delete should be added `soon', possibly with
slideshows after that.

`File details' popup (on `:', `;', and Selector menu, File, Details)
shows size, date/time, etc. of the file under the keyboard cursor, or
the file right-clicked on when the selector's menu was popped up.
(This is also how the tag/untag menu items work, though in that case
using ctrl-click is obviously more convenient.)

Added file delete with confirmation (on ctrl-d and Selector menu,
File, Delete). The way the file to delete is selected is the same as
for `file details'.

There's now a reduce-only option for zoom mode, meaning you can have
xzgv fit big pictures to the window without having tiny icons etc.
balloon up and look horrible. It's not the default, but you can enable
it with Alt-r or the viewer options menu's "When Zooming Reduce Only"
toggle or `--zoom-reduce-only' or equivalent config file setting.
Thanks to Steven Flintham and Robert Braddock for this idea.

Middle-clicking on the viewer now toggles the selector rather than
always acting like Exit viewer. Thanks to Steven Flintham for
suggesting this.

`go to dir' dialog. (Only text-entry for now (!), but I'll probably
extend it at some point.) On shift-g, and Directory/Change.

You can now `close' a file (clear the viewer). On ctrl-w, and
File/Close.

Added a way to rescan a directory (ctrl-r, Directory/Rescan).

You can now set whether to use 15/16-bit dithering or not independent
of Imlib's default setting. The option is Options/Dither in 15 &
16-bit on the viewer menu, and can also be set by --dither-hicol or
equivalent config file setting.

** Bugfixes

It previously segfaulted on files less than 4 bytes long due to a
typo. Um, whoops... :-}

Previously it would hang on some corrupt GIFs. The fix for this
reflects the one in zgv 5.0, and thanks go to Andy Mortimer for the
fix (to zgv, but it (currently) applies to xzgv too).

Fixed problem where xzgv's moving the focused row `by hand' sometimes
messed up the display. And similarly, when the selector lost focus due
to selecting a picture, it previously didn't undraw the focused row.

It now copes with being started in an unreadable dir, and avoids
selecting files/dirs it doesn't have sufficient permissions for.

Pixmaps for dirs and thumbnailless pics are now shaped, rather than
having an ugly white background.

Fixed bug where, if you enabled zoom on a picture of nearly the same
shape as the viewer window, it left the scrollbars on.

Esc now exits an error dialog (making it consistent with the other ones).

It no longer keeps saying "Reading file..." on the statusbar if a file
couldn't be read.

** Other changes

Thumbnail updates now make sure any row a thumbnail is being updated
for is visible, making the update look more like it does in zgv - as
well as making it rather more clear what's going on. :-)

Bothered giving it a half-decent logo. :-) Also has a similar icon.

Replaced the directory/file-without-thumbnail icons with nicer ones.
They're loosely based on gmc's `dir-close.xpm', which I think Tuomas
Kuosmanen was responsible for (judging from the change log). Thanks
also to Steven Flintham for pointing out that the old icons were
pretty crap. :-)

Changed Sort Order menu items to be `Sort by Name' etc. under new
`Directory' menu to accomodate `Change' and `Rescan'.

Error dialogs look a bit better.

Install targets now use `mkinstalldirs' (from texinfo) to make paths
to installation dirs first. It seems the FHS guarantees little if
anything about /usr/local, so this is basically required rather than
merely being a good idea.

Here's the LSM entry:

- --------------------------------------------------------------------------
Begin3
Title: xzgv
Version: 0.2
Entered-date: 22NOV99
Description: xzgv is a GTK+/Imlib-based picture viewer for X, which
supports most popular image formats. It provides a
thumbnail-based file selector, and allows panning and
                fit-to-window methods of viewing.

xzgv is more a rewrite of zgv than a port as such, but
those familiar with zgv should see more than a passing
resemblance. And while it's mouse-friendly, it can
also be used entirely from the keyboard. :-)

gnokii is a Linux/Unix tool suite and (soon) modem/fax driver for
Nokia (GSM) mobile phones. This release provides enhanced support for the
