I've knocked up a Perl script and accompanying instructions to provide a
solution to the situation where one or more users of a dual-boot machine
want to read their mail under Windows, and you want to receive mail for all
users when connecting to the ISP under Linux. The solution presented uses
the least possible bandwidth (messages are only downloaded from the ISP
once) and allows the use of any POP3-compatible Windows mail client.

It's called mailshift, and it's in early development. It requires that you
install Inframail for Windows (free) - instructions on the web site below.

At the moment, there is only one unresolved issue I know about: on my home
setup, the Inframail server seems to be running an hour behind the system
clock, and won't serve any messages with "future" timestamps. It's easy
enough to work around if you know about touch(1). I'll try to include a fix
in the Perl script on the next revision.

NOTE: this is my first attempt at Perl programming. I make no claims for the
performance of this software. If it loses mail or any other data, or damages
your system in any way, you're on your own.

Let me know what you think - mails to mailshift@tranchant.freeserve.co.uk
please.
