The program tsinvest is for the real time programmed day trading of
equities. New in version 0.9 is a "hook" program that will translate
the Yahoo! historical database of stock daily closing prices at
http://chart.yahoo.com/d to a format that is compatible with the
tsinvest time series database format. The Yahoo! historical database
contains the daily closes for all stocks in the US equity markets for
several decades.

The program has a web site at http://www2.inow.com/~conover/ntropix/

    From the lsm:

    Begin3
    Title: tsinvest-0.9.tar.gz
    Version: 0.9
    Entered-date: October 27, 1999
Description: Quantitative financial analysis of equities.
The optimal gains of multiple equity
investments are computed. The program decides
which of all available equities to invest in
at any single time, by calculating the
                            instantaneous Shannon probability of all
                            equities, and using statistical estimation
techniques to estimate the accuracy of the
                            calculated Shannon probability. Entropic
techniques are used throughout. A tutorial is
presented in the man(1) pages. A companion
equity market simulation program is included,
as is a simple data blade program template. A
fragment of the daily US exchange tickers,
from 1993 to 1996, is included as a
                            demonstration of the program's capabilities.
Additionally, there is a program provided that
will translate the Yahoo! historical database
of stock daily closing prices at
                            http://chart.yahoo.com/d to a compatible
                            database format.

Subject: FXPy-0.99.79 - a Python interface to the FOX GUI library
Date: Sun, 31 Oct 1999 08:14:01 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

This is an update of FXPy, a Python extension module which provides
an interface to the FOX cross-platform GUI library:

  Home Page: http://home.hiwaay.net/~johnson2/FXPy
  Download Source: ftp://ftp.cfdrc.com/pub/FOX/FXPy-0.99.79.tar.gz
  Windows Binaries: ftp://ftp.cfdrc.com/pub/FOX/FXPy-0.99.79-win32.exe

To build FXPy from the sources, you will also need to download version
0.99.79 of the FOX library:

  FOX Home Page: http://www.cfdrc.com/FOX/fox.html
  Download Source: ftp://ftp.cfdrc.com/pub/FOX/fox-0.99.79.tar.gz
                    ftp://ftp.cfdrc.com/pub/FOX/fox-0.99.79.zip

As you may have guessed by now, the latest release of FXPy is
version 0.99.79.

What is it?
- -----------

FXPy is a Python extension module which provides an interface
to the FOX cross-platform GUI library. With a few minor exceptions,
FXPy provides a complete interface to FOX. FOX is a C++-based toolkit
for developing graphical user interfaces easily and effectively. Some
of the significant features of FOX include:

 * A rich set of widgets (including dials, shutters, tree lists, and
    many other "modern" widgets).
 * Powerful but easy-to-use layout managers.
 * Extensive support for 3-D modeling using OpenGL or Mesa.
 * Supports the XDND protocol for drag-and-drop.
 * Registry for persistent application settings.
 * Runs natively under Unix/X and Microsoft Windows.
 *  And much, much more!

Please see the FOX home page (URL listed above) for more details about
the FOX library's features. Also consider subscribing to the fox-users
mailing list for the latest news about FOX development; again, see the
FOX home page for information on this.

FXPy is (c) 1999 Lyle Johnson (jlj@cfdrc.com) and is released under
the GNU Lesser General Public License.

Subject: Hoard 1.2 - malloc/free replacement: 30% faster + SPROC support

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

Hoard is a fast, scalable, and memory-efficient replacement
for malloc/free for multiprocessors. The newest release (1.2)
incorporates a user-level lock implementation (for x86, SPARC,
and SGI's) that improves performance by about 30%. This makes
Hoard faster than the Linux allocator in glibc2, even on just
one processor (it's always been faster for multiple processors).

This version also includes an "sproc" version for SGI's.

The Hard Disk Upgrade Mini How-To has been updated. The new version is
number 2.1, dated 20 October 1999.

This document explains how to copy, or migrate, a Linux system from one
hard disk to another, for example when replacing a small hard disk with
a larger one. It has been tested with Red Hat 6.0, Debian 2.1, Slackware
3.5 and SuSE 6.2, and contains specific instructions for each of these
distributions.

The Mini How-To is currently available at the co-author's WWW site at:

http://www.storm.ca/~yan/Hard-Disk-Upgrade.html
    (HTML version)

http://www.storm.ca/~yan/Hard-Disk-Upgrade
    (plain text)

It will soon be available from the Linux Documentation Project archives
at:

http://metalab.unc.edu/mdw/HOWTO/mini/Hard-Disk-Upgrade.html
    (HTML version)

http://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/docs/HOWTO/mini/Hard-Disk-Upgrade
    (plain text)

and all LDP mirrors.

Changes in this version: SuSE now covered specifically; other minor
changes.
