In "Why Sun should GPL StarOffice" Zach Frey examines the licensing issues
surrounding the popular Staroffice program. He argues that it should
be released under the GNU Public License for the benefit of everyone,
including Sun.

This article outlines several of the Open Source licenses
that Linux programs use and should be of interest to anyone running Linux

Lars Wirzenius writes:

I started work on the Linux System Administrators' Guide in
December 1992 or January 1993. Gosh, I had energy then. Lately,
it hasn't been updated very frequently, and it is in need of some
updates and there's still stuff it should cover, but doesn't.
I don't have the time or the energy to do anything about it,
so I've recruited Joanna to maintain the book instead.

I've received lots of nice feedback from readers. I hope
Joanna will, also. Treat her gently, and feed her back,
with comments, fixes, and new material.

Joanna Oja writes:

I try to follow the good example Lars has set. Please send me
        fixes and patches. Thank you

The new home page for the Linux System Administrators' Guide is at

        http://www.iki.fi/viu/linux/sag/

Version 0.6.2 contains the following changes from version 0.6.1 (the
previous version, and the last version Lars made):

- - Removed LaTeX formattings that were left from the DocBook conversion,
- - and corrected some misspellings.

I convinced my boss to let me GPL this, and have since improved it.

changetrack is a program to monitor changes to a bunch of files. If files
are modify one day, and the machine start working incorrectly some days
later, changetrack can provide information on which files were
modified, and help locate the problem. Changetrack will also allow
recovery of the files from any stage.

This program makes human-readable output, and also uses RCS to allow
recovery of any stage of revision.

changeweb is a cgi-script that creates a web interface for changetrack.

Changetrack is available (and should continue to be available) at
ftp://ftp.zone12.com/pub/changetrack
  and, until December 1999,
ftp://129.97.38.28/pub/changetrack

I've some ideas to improve this, mainly to add mailing features like the
FSF uses. Right now I'm too busy; maybe in the winter that will happen.
