LINUX C++ MAILING LISTS
- -----------------------

Following the success of the Linux C Mailing Lists, David Lloyd has now
created the Linux C++ Mailing Lists. The purpose of the Linux C++
Mailing List will be to help and support people programming linux with
C++. David hopes that there will be no question too difficult or too
easy for the list to answer.

To subscribe to the C++ list, simply send this email with an empty
subject and message:

mailto:tuxCPProgramming-subscribe@listbot.com

Don't forget, though, that the C List will still continue to operate.
You can subscribe to it by emailing an empty subject and message to:

mailto:linuxCprogramming-subscribe@listbot.com

David hopes that these lists will become a resource for the Linux
Community as a whole. Having only made a preliminary announcement to the
Linux C Mailing List eight hours ago there are already twenty members.
Please, come along and join us!

                             Version 2.99

              Copyright (C) 1998, 1999 Markus F.X.J. Oberhumer
                   <markus.oberhumer@jk.uni-linz.ac.at>

What is PySol ?
===============

PySol is a free solitaire card game written in 100% pure Python.

Why yet another solitaire game ?
================================

Good point. What do you think about this:

  - based upon an extensible solitaire engine
  - currently supports more than 40 different solitaire variants
  - very nice look and feel including multiple cardsets and background
    table tiles
  - unlimited undo & redo
  - load & save games
  - player statistics
  - hint system
  - demo games
  - support for user written plug-ins
  - integrated HTML help browser
  - PySol is fully portable across Unix/X11, Windows 95/98/NT and MacOS
  - distributed under the GNU GPL with full source code

Yeah, I know. But what's new ?
==============================

  * As compared to the previous stable version 2.14 this release
    includes more than 20 new solitaire variations and an
    incredible number of other improvements.

Cool. Where can I get it ?
==========================

Point your browser to http://wildsau.idv.uni-linz.ac.at/mfx/pysol.html
The PySol Gallery is awaiting your visit as well.

What do I need to start playing ?
=================================

PySol requires Python 1.5.2 and Tcl/Tk 8.0.5. Both packages are
freely available for Unix, Windows and Macintosh.

BTW, there is no need to compile anything since the whole program is just
a Python script. Just run it, and that's all.

Contributions
=============

I'm looking for people who want to contibute new games, provide
additional graphics, scan cardset packs, improve the docs, etc.
Please see the README in the distribution about details.

Have fun,
Markus

CYGNUS AND ICS PARTNER TO PROVIDE TECHNOLOGY FOR DESIGNING LINUX
APPLICATIONS WITH GRAPHICAL USER INTERFACES

Integration of ICS BX PRO with Cygnus Code Fusion IDE Provides a Visual
Development Environment for Linux Application Developers

SUNNYVALE, Calif., October 12, 1999 - Cygnus Solutions, the leader in
open source software, and Integrated Computer Solutions (ICS), the
leader in WYSIWYG user interface development, today announced a
strategic agreement to integrate ICS' Builder Xcessory PRO(tm) (BX PRO)
with Cygnus' Code Fusion( Integrated Development Environment (IDE). This
agreement provides Linux software developers with the first commercial
IDE with graphical user interface (GUI) builder development
capabilities. Combining the award-winning Code Fusion IDE with BX
PRO(tm) automates the tasks required when switching between design and
build tasks during the development of Linux applications with graphical
user interfaces. The increased developer productivity resulting from the
integration of these products will benefit corporate and applications
developers migrating to Linux from other operating systems.

"Cygnus recently introduced Code Fusion as an IDE that supports open
source software development, because we are committed to meeting the
needs of Linux software developers," said Tom Barton, senior vice
president, Cygnus Solutions. "Our partnership with ICS extends the
functionality of Code Fusion to meet the requirements of developers
wanting GUI builder tools."

"By integrating the two products, developers are able to quickly create
their user interface and application structure using the GUI Builder
facilities of BX PRO and then complete the coding, building and
debugging of their application using Code Fusion," said Mark Hatch, vice
president and General Manager of ICS. "No other commercial software
development tools currently available on Linux, and only a select few on
Microsoft Windows offer this level of developer productivity."
Pricing and Availability

Both Cygnus' Code Fusion IDE and ICS' BX PRO software are available
immediately. Code Fusion is priced at $299 and is available for purchase
online at www.cygnus.com/linux and through the Cygnus Partner Program at
www.cygnus.com/partner. ICS provides and supports the integration of BX
PRO with Code Fusion. The integration software, and a free trial copy of
BX PRO, can be downloaded at http://linux.ics.com.

Product Background
With Code Fusion, Cygnus combines the latest Cygnus-certified,
open-source GNU tools release with an intuitive graphical IDE framework
to maximize Linux developers' productivity and greatly reduce their
development times. The Code Fusion IDE is optimized for the Intel
Architecture to provide developers the tools required for building the
fastest applications possible. This complete Linux IDE tightly
integrates C, C++, and Java programming languages with a robust GUI to
enhance developer productivity and reduce software product
time-to-market. Cygnus Code Fusion supports major Linux distributions to
offer Linux developers the most flexibility in development on and for
Linux.

BX PRO is the GUI builder preferred by UNIX software developers because
its WYSIWYG environment simplifies and speeds the creation of user
interfaces. ICS has ported the latest BX PRO release to all the current
releases of all the major Linux operating system distributions. BX PRO
5.0 consists of Builder Xcessory(tm); the industry's most advanced
graphical user interface builder for C, C++ and Java; ViewKit(tm), a
flexible and mature C++ reuse framework that can be tailored to
accommodate the specific needs of individual businesses; and
EnhancementPak(tm); a library of 34 reusable components including
business graphs and sophisticated user interface controls. More detailed
product information is available under the Products section of the ICS
home page at http://www.ics.com.

Cygnus Solutions, the leader in open-source software and an innovating
force in Internet software infrastructure, offers development platforms
and operating systems based on an open source model. From GNUPro(
Toolkit and Code Fusion(tm) IDE to eCos(tm), the Embedded Cygnus

This is the bug fix version of SkateFTP. Yeah I know it just came
out but this is the version that should have hit the streets to
start with. OOPS.

From: vitus@ice.ru
Subject: catdoc-0.91 - MS Word file viewer
Date: Wed, 13 Oct 1999 21:27:33 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

New (experimental) version of catdoc - 0.91.0 is released.
(Entire branch 0.91 is considered unstable)

Catdoc is a program which reads MS-Word file and prints to stdout
text, contained in it. Just text only, no fancy formatting or embedded
objects.

New version detects MS-Write, MS-Word for Windows <=2.0 and newer
versions automatically, and recognizes whether data is in Unicode or
in 8-bit charset.

In difference of previous versions it doesn't try to parse non-textual
parts of Word file, so no garbage is produced
(-b option is still here, as well as -u option and new -8 option to
override incorrect detection of unicode)
