Subject: Zgv v3.3 (svgalib graphics viewer) uploaded
Date: Mon, 5 Jul 1999 21:45:30 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
[I (Russell Marks) don't have net access, but Steven has been kind
enough to upload/post on my behalf.]
Zgv v3.3's been uploaded to metalab.unc.edu. It's an svgalib picture
viewer with a thumbnail-based file selector.
This is largely a bugfix release. The main change is that zgv now
supports 32-bit modes (which were apparently causing problems before).
I'd appreciate knowing if the 32-bit mode stuff works or not; my
machine's (rather elderly) SVGA hardware only supports up to 24-bit,
so I couldn't actually test the code. :-)
Here's the changes relative to the previous version (from NEWS):
** New features
Support for 32-bit modes; zgv will now use a suitable 32-bit mode as a
kind of substitute 24-bit mode, if a requested 24-bit mode is
unavailable. This is more a bugfix than a new feature though, as zgv
was apparently rather broken on some (all?) cards with 32-bit modes
before. Some of the 32-bit support was based on Matan Ziv-Av's code.
You can now reverse the order in which brightness and contrast are
applied, using `B' or the config file option `bc_order_rev'.
** Bugfixes
Fixed bug where thin images would cause FP exceptions. (This applied
to pictures with aspect ratios wider than 80:1 or taller than 1:60.)
Thanks to Jan Willamowius for finding this one.
Now has a less stupid check-for-high-colour-modes routine.
`zgv -T' now outputs filenames followed by LFs, not spaces. This
should hopefully avoid problems for filenames with embedded spaces, at
least.
Multi-plane (4-bit or 24-bit) PCXs which had runs going across planes
weren't decoded correctly; fixed that.
When updating thumbnails, the "Resampling..." text could previously
have appeared in just about any colour. :-)
** Other changes
vkludge in 8-bit modes is now slightly less accurate (it works with
15-bit RGB values rather than 18-bit ones), but considerably faster.
You can now use R to rename a file, by analogy with C, M, and D for
copy/move/delete. The old alt-r still works, though. (The slideshow
shuffle (randomise) toggle is now only available on S.)
The old `README.src' was renamed to the more reasonable `INSTALL'.

Subject: HTMLView 0.6 - make web interfaces to relational SQL databases
Date: Mon, 5 Jul 1999 21:48:16 GMT
Reply-To: hakan@debian.org
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
HTMLView is a set of modules to handle relational SQL databases
through a DBI interface and create web user interfaces to them. Among
it's features are the possibility to handle relations in the same
manner as fields and it is easily extended with additional field or
relation specifications as well as custom editors and viewers.
HTMLView contains a query language based on SQL, but extended to allow
easy inclusion of relations in the queries. Say you have a Users
table with an N2N relation, called grp, to a Groups table you can select
users from the Users table based on the name field in the Groups
table by selecting on grp->name (eg "grp->name = 'sudo'" would match
all users belonging to the group named sudo while "grp->gid = 27" would
match all users belonging to the group with gid 27).
There is also a fmt language used to specify how the data in a post
or a set of posts should be presented. It works in a template like way
with a html like format, and it can be specified on a PostSet, Post or
Relation/Field level.
It's most frequent use is that it allows you to write a fmt file and
in it place a "<node>...</node>" construct, which will repeat the
"..." part for every post that's supposed to be viewed. It can contain
"<fld name>" tags which will be replaced by the fld (field or relation)
named name. It's also possible to specify how that data in an fld
should be viewed by instead using the "<fmt name>...</fmt>" where
"..." is a new fmt string used to view the fld. This is especially
useful for relations as it allows you to specify exactly how the
related posts should be presented.
It's also possible to insert perl code that's executed using
"<perl>...</perl>" constructs. Se the README.fmt file for a complete
description of the language.
News in this version is:
* Added N2One relations
* An Int value set to "" will now be set to NULL in the db
* Added view_fmt method to PostSet, Post and Fld classes. It will output
the object acording to a fmt string that in a HTML like way allows you to
format your Posts or PostSets in any way you like.
You'll find the distribution at CPAN in:
authors/id/H/HA/HAKANARDO/DBIx-HTMLView-0.6.tar.gz
Or if the mirrors are not updated yet you can pick it up by ftp from
hobbe.ub2.lu.se in /pub/CPAN/DBIx-HTMLView-0.6.tar.gz.

Z81 is a Sinclair ZX81 emulator. (The US equivalent was the Timex
TS1000.) The ZX80 can also be emulated. There are actually three
versions - Z81 (svgalib), xz81 (for X), and Z81txt (for any text-mode
Linux console - it'll even work on MDA/CGA/EGA).
Changes in v1.2:
Added `zx81get', which reads ZX81 tapes using a soundcard (or more
precisely, using /dev/dsp :-)).
Fixed xz81's 1-bit mono support to work on X servers with `LSBFirst'
bit order. Thanks to Christopher Allen for pointing me in the right
direction on this one.
Fixed auto-load bug (for programs loaded from the command-line),
where most programs which didn't just do an immediate USR after
loading acted oddly or simply crashed.

ZX81's pseudo-hi-res mode. A few ZX81-related utils,
GIFs of the keyboard layout, two PD tetris clones,
a PD minesweeper clone, and a pear tree are included.
(Just add partridge.)
Though I (rjm) wrote Z81 etc., I give Ian main author
credit as I used his Z80 emulation (from his excellent
`xz80' ZX Spectrum emulator), which is the most
difficult bit, not to mention being half the code. :-)
(Please don't contact Ian in relation to Z81; I just
used his code, he wasn't otherwise involved. The email

might be out of date.)

Subject: GNU which 2.7 - print paths of commands
Date: Wed, 7 Jul 1999 21:11:43 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Released: GNU which 2.7
Description:
Which is a utility that prints out the full path of the
executables that bash(1) would execute when the passed
program names would have been entered on the shell prompt.
It does this by using the exact same algorithm as bash.
Tildes and a dot in the PATH are now expanded to the
full path by default. Options allow to rather print
"~/*" or "./*" and/or to print all exectuables that
match any directory in PATH.
Examples:
>which ls
/bin/ls
>which --show-tilde cat
~/c/which/cat
Maintained-by: carlo@runaway.xs4all.nl (Carlo Wood)

NEWS:

* Configure/compile fix in the `tilde' directory.
Version 2.5 --> 2.6
* Doesn't depend on libreadline.a anymore.
Version 2.4 --> 2.5
* Fixed which-2.spec
* RPMs are now available from http://www.xs4all.nl/~carlo17/which
