I have compiled gtk successfully on Irix 6.2 with gcc 2.90.* (i.e., egcs 1.0.x
or egcs 1.1). I believe gcc 2.7.2.* is not properly supported on Irix 6.
Maybe you want to upgrade to gcc egcs first (see egcs.cygnus.com).
Also on Irix 6.2 you have to use n32 (o32 format is not supported by gcc on
Irix 6)
Note that your gcc thinks your system is Irix 5.3 while you say it's 6.3
