alan cox ( http://roadrunner.swansea.uk.linux.org/alan.shtml )uses 
magicpoint ( http://www.Mew.org/mgp/ ). you might give it a shot. i
haven't
used it, but he says on his page: 
"MagicPoint may not appeal to all, but the approach of writing a text
file in 
normal ascii and then feeding it to MagicPoint is precisely how I want
it to 
work. It's very hard to do clever editing tricks with only a GUI and
crude cut 
and paste functions."
