[gtk-list] generic rebinding of keys in text & entry widget?

is there any gtkrc fu that you can use to rebind keys in the entry
and text widgets? the docs come up empty on this subject, and the code
looks suspiciously like the answer is "no", but i could easily be missing
something.
i want Delete to delete backwards. it looks like this is what BackSpace
is supposed to do, but i rebind the keys via xmodmap on my keyboard to
do away with BackSpace for other reasons. it would be nice if there were
some generic gtkrc fu to accomplish arbitrary rebindings. if there isn't,
is anyone working on this?
