gtkbox.h have expand and fill attributes. Wouldn't that do what you are
looking for? Of course, that only applies to box children. I haven't
looked enough at the menu stuff to figure out if that is helpful. Probably
not.
This is another thing that should apply to all widgets. (fill, expand)
I assume this would be a difficult change?
