A few months ago I submitted a similar patch but the principle was
totally different : the patch was on gdk actuall, it was automagically
transforming button 4/5 events into pgup/pgdown keystrokes (it's
probably still on ftp.gtk.org). I thought doing it this way was a bit
more general, but your approach is obviously much cleaner and less of
a hack.
