For entry-level, I'd recommend "Internet Cryptography" by Richard
Smith as well as "Basic Methods of Cryptography" by Jan C.A. Van Der
Lubbe. Both books are good, comprehensive overviews of the different
types of cryptographic systems that will help ramp up the neophyte to the
point where they can begin to tackle "Applied Cryptography" and so on.
