This case in 1960 concerned the anonymous distribution of leaflets in LA,
IIRC. A local ordinance required the leaflets to have printed on them some
informaition regarding the printer and a "true name" of who was behind the
effort.
There was another case in the mid-90s similar to this which made it up to
the Supremes. Either way, this particular decision was nothing new... As
always, IANAL.
