Hi,

I would not say that tcfs is less secure than cfs just because
it uses a passwd and not a passphrase.
The authentication method is not part of tcfs but it depends on the set of
utilities you use to access tcfs.
The current TCFS release uses PAM. So just pick you favorite
authentication method (be it a passphrase, smart card, one-time password, or
whatever you feel comfortable with), configure PAM accordingly, and
TCFS will happily go along.

On another account, TCFS is part of the linux kernel and thus
does not work for BSD. We are currently, working on something
similar to TCFS for BSD. It should appear
no sooner than the end of summer.
If anybody is interested in helping, please
contact us.

Regards,
