Hello all,
I am trying to install cfs 1.4.0.beta2 on my Linux system, and the first part
has gone fine. The source compiles, the daemon runs, and I have the NFS mount
as per the directions. However, cmkdir goes into a CPU-hogging loop,
apparently stuck in the roulette() function of truerand.c. I've let it go for
a half-hour at a time, so I suspect it isn't coming back any time soon.
Is this a known glitch? Just in case this is an OS or hardware-dependent
problem, here are the system details:
OS: Linux, 2.2.1 kernel (Debian 2.1 distribution)
CPU: Cyrix 6x86
Now, I could patch things to just use the Linux-specific /dev/random for the
few bytes required, but a portable fix is preferable. Any suggestions one way
or the other would be appreciated. By the way, I'm a newbie to CFS, so this
is a fresh install, no version conflicts or anything like that.
Cheers,
Tim Lavoie

The idea that an arbitrary naive human should be able to properly use a given
tool without training or understanding is even more wrong for computing than
it is for other tools (e.g. automobiles, airplanes, guns, power saws).
