For Your Information...
About a month ago I came across a useful little LISTSERV command I hadn't
heard about before. There is a option available on APO-L called DIGESTS. If
you send the command SET APO-L DIGESTS to LISTSERV@VM.CC.PURDUE.EDU (or
LISTSERV@PURCCVM), then you will receive a daily collection of APO-L messages
in one file, instead of a separate file for each message. A table of contents
of the file comes at the beginning.
********************************************************************************
* SEND THE COMMAND TO LISTSERV@VM.CC.PURDUE.EDU (OR LISTSERV@PURCCVM) *NOT* TO *
* THE WHOLE APO-L LIST LIKE YOU WOULD ANY NORMAL MESSAGE. ----- *
********************************************************************************
This bundling of messages can be very useful. For example:
-> Bundling your APO-L e-mail into a single message makes it easy to
locate if you receive a large number of non-APO-L messages a day.
Each digest has a subject line similar to "APO-L Digest - 27 Oct 1993
to 28 Oct 1993".
-> The table of contents at the beginning of the digest makes it easy to
browse the subjects covered in the digest for useful/interesting topics.
-> If you are charged $$$ for each e-mail received, then receiving your
APO-L as a single block could drastically reduce your costs.
-> The verbose SMTP e-mail headers (ie: "Received: from ... by ..." lines)
are compressed. If you are charged $$$ per kilobyte of messages
received, then this could really save you money.
I expect the LISTSERVer for APOSOC-L would accept SET APOSOC-L DIGESTS command.
