It's rare that my presidency has led me to do anything out of the ordinary.
However, this afternoon was a little different.
As those of you who were on APO-L at this time last year remember, we lost
our service v.p. to an accident in her home. Today is the one-year
anniversary of her death. Needless to say, it was a fairly tough day for a
lot of us. And yet it was also special. Earlier this week, there was a tree
planted on campus with a plaque next to it, in loving memory of Patty Smith.
We held a short dedication ceremony this afternoon. Completely by default,
because I am the president, I ended up running the show. It was a very
moving and touching experience and one which I will not soon forget. It was
a beautiful tribute to lost brother and friend.
