Ok everybody, here is the announcement.

Due to popular demand (read: I am too busy to do this by hand
anymore), FILESERV v1.0 software (don't worry about the name, I just
randomly named it) will now begin service.

The fileserv is an automated file distribution program. To request
files, send a message to ME (that's enyman@vt.edu) with the word
FILESERV in all caps on a line by itself, anywhere in the body of the
message (not in the header). If this line is in the message, it goes
to the fileserv(er), otherwise it goes to me.

If you type help or HELP on a line by itself, the fileserv will send
you a little file introducing itself. Note:although FILESERV needs to
be all caps and HELP can be in caps, ALL OTHER COMMANDS AND FILENAMES
NEED TO BE IN LOWER CASE.

I currently only have a couple things on the fileserv, I will be
adding more later.

To get a list of general files, the command is
get list

For a list of APhiO specific directories, the command is
get aphio

I currently only have the bylaws on the fileserv, although I plan to
add the rest of the files on the ftp site later.

If you want to just go straight to the bylaws, the command
get apobylaw
will send you a list of the bylaws and the file identifier for it.

In suggestions from brothers out there, there was one thing that you
wanted: ease of use. Well, how's this? There is only ONE command.
That is called get (lowercase, remember?). And there are no
directories, the configuration on my end knows where the filenames
are. There are no limits to the number of files you can request at
once (if the volume of data goes too high, I will let you all know.)

There is only one problem though. This is not instantaneous. The
fileserv system is running on my machine which only is connected to
the internet once a day. That means that you might end up waiting 24
hours for the fileserv to get back to you. But that is no worse than
the FTPmail system at dec, and I speak from experience when I say that
this setup is alot easier to use.

BTW, I think that it is Scott B. that re-ftp'd those 3 chapter lists
to me. Could you email them? I thought that they were ok but they
seem to be corrupted again. Go figure...

If you have any questions that are not resolved by sending a message
like:
FILESERV
help
get aphio

to me, then feel free to send me a message written for a person. I
still can get regular mail.
