Brothers,
In many chapters the whole chapter votes on service projects, my chapter does
not. Regardless, we all have marking periods that are just overflowing with
other committments that are no less worthy of our attention than a service
project. It is important to be understanding of each other because it IS a
volunteer fraternity, and no where in any of our princlples or founding
documents have I found the position that we must justify ourselves and our
private lives to our brothers. In fact, and though this may be different at
other chapters, there is no prohibition of allowing officially "inactive"
brothers who may not have completed services requirements in the past from
participating in any of our functions (except voting). We have so much
understanding for individuals in our communities that are having problems that
we can help them with, or attempt to help them with, it seems that we should be
able to have that level of understanding from our own Brothers, rather than
condemnation for "lame" excuses for missing a meeting or service project. As
others have said, it may be indicative of structural problems that can be
chaged, and that must also be taken into consideration.

YiLFS,
Shoshie Levine
