Someone asked about President Clinton not speaking to the Boy Scout Jamboree.
According to the newspaper article I read, the U.S. President is usually
invited each year but only two have ever accepted, and even then only once
each during their four or eight years in office. Considering that he was
rather pre-occupied with the very tight budget debate, not to mention the
proposed crime bill, health care, Bosnia, etc., I think it's a very long
jump to a conclusion that he declined because of BSA's policy on gays. I
really suspect that the only reason this made the news at all was because
some folks are looking for anything and everything they can find to try to
discredit or embarrass him because they don't like his views. Has anyone
else noticed how much more than ever before we seem to dwell on every actual
or imagined shortcoming of our Presidents? Bush got trashed royally,
especially during the latter part of his term, and now it's happening to
Clinton. I guess it's really a sign of how little confidence and great
cynicism the average John Q. Public has about the capabilities of government.
