Greetings Brothers, Pledges and Petitioners,
Happy National Service Week! Today is the first day (November 3-9) of our
25th national fall service effort of this kind. I know that many of you who
I've met and heard from are planning service projects for NSW and that is
wonderful. If you haven't planned something yet, though, it's not too late.

This year's theme--chosen by you at the 2002 National Convention--is Building
a Sound Mind. The goals of National Service Week are to:
1) COMPLETE A SERVICE PROJECT REFLECTING THIS THEME during the week (or
another time if the date doesn't work for your chapter). You only need to do one
project but you are welcome to do more if you want to. Part of our message as
a NATIONAL organization is that we're all doing projects on this theme around
the same time.
2) INVOLVE NON-CHAPTER MEMBERS IN YOUR SERVICE PROJECT. This is a great way
to recruit new members!
3) PUBLICIZE YOUR PROJECT. Send out a press release, do an interview with
the campus radio station, send out a campus-wide email...be creative to get
publicity for your project and APO.
4) COMPLETE THE NSW REPORT FORM and send it to the National Office by
December 1, 2003. Reporting on National Service Week (even if it's to tell us that
you didn't do a project) is now required for your chapter to be in good
standing. You can report at apo.org.

For more helpful hints, a sample press release, etc. read the NSW handbook
which was mailed to your chapter, is on the Chapter Resource CD that was sent to
your chapter and also available online at:
http://www.apo.org/programs/service/national_service_week/resources.shtml

A special thanks to Blondie Barnes, the National Service Week Chair, and all
Regional and Sectional Service Chairs and others who have helped promote NSW.

Warmest Wishes and Good Luck,
Carla Moran
National Service & Communication Program Director
Alpha Phi Omega National Board of Directors
