One of the most amusing UMOC stories I've heard is an apocryphal tale of
Gamma chapter's UMOC. Long before I knew about APO, I was told by a member
of Cornell's Big Red Band that there was a fraternity on campus that ran an
"Ugliest Man on Campus" competition to raise money for charity. He said
that the tuba section of the Big Red Band signed up as a contestant, and
then went around to sorority houses and sernaded the residents until they
threw enough money into their tubas that they couldn't play anymore.
He didn't say how much money was raised this way, nor if they ever won the
competition.
