At Xi Rho, the pledges and bigs find out at the ceremony.
The big can be instrumental if the pledge is a little shy or not outgoing..
it puts a single face on who to go to with questions and for hte big as
well.
As a former VPM/Pledgemaster at Xi Rho, I actually assigned the bigs/littles
completely randomly. I took all the pledge forms and had the bigs come up
one by one and pick them out. It had mixed results. Ive seen other VPMs do
it by personality likeness, one who did it for complimenting eachothers
personalities, and for a while people were assigned to certain members of my
family tree for what was in their pants (that is, we were an almost all
female chapter. My big was the lone male for 3 semesters, maintaing our
little island of testosterone).. That practice faded as we got more male
pledges.
I kind of like the fact that when peopel turn around in the ceremony they
are facing their big, someone who wil be with them the entire journey.
