Regarding indoor ceremonies and open flame--
One of my previous chapters was on a campus where open flame was
not allowed in any room unless a "fire marshall" was present.
Essentially all you had to do to gain such a status was to attend a 1-hour
session, basically to inform you of what to do in case of fire and how to
use a fire extinguisher. It's a sensible thing to do, and ought to cover
any insurance issues that the university is worried about. Ask if the
university provides such a class or if there is any similar way you can
handle the open flame issue. After all, attended flame is much less of a
fire hazard than the thousands of unattended computers that are left on in
offices and dorm rooms (sorry, residence halls :) ).
