It is with a sad heart, that we are informing you of the passing of Joseph
P. Morrone, Jr., early in the morning - May 5, 2003. He was 53 years old.
"Joe," as he was widely known, was an alumus from Zeta Theta Chapter, Drexel
University, had served on the Alpha Phi Omega National Board of Directors,
and most recently served as 2000 National Convention Coordinator, in
Philadelphia PA.
For those who may not have known, Joe had been in for surgery in January,
then went back in for more restorative work last month, after which he was
in a rehab center recuperating, and only recently went back into the
hospital for additional restorative work where he went into Liver failure
(from a previous issue) and subsequently, slipped into a coma last week. He
had been unconscious but resting comfortably as recently as last Friday.
Several Alpha Phi Omega Brothers visited him this past weekend in the Haven
Hospice at JFK Hospital in Edison, NJ. He never regained consciousness, and
passed away peacefully.
Cards can be sent to his brother and sister-in-law: Bob and Barbara Morrone
at the address below (at end).
The Catholic service is planned for Friday in the Cherry Hill, NJ area. (see
details at end)
They are asking for contributions in lieu of flowers.(see details at end)
We do ask your discretion in contacting them directly, remember it is a
difficult and trying time for them as well.
Cheryl Smith is acting as local APO poc, and George Fritze is acting as ZT
alum POC -- if there is something that we can help coordinate with the
family and such. The family has asked for suggestions about how to share
Joe's devotion to Alpha Phi Omega and would like to acknowledge members of
his "other family." Please let us know if you have ideas. we were looking
for photos of Joe to display and/or to present to his family, as they have
few. Again, Please coordinate information through one of the point of
contacts below (APO,NCR, ZT/Drexel), rather than flood the family with
requests etc... at this time. Otherwise, please feel
Please keep Joe's family in your prayers...
Thank you, and God Bless
Cheryl Lynn Smith
