Kevin (and others):

I don't consider the comments to be a mistake, really. I think there is =
a perception that alumni should be doing more and that if we do, the =
problems of the Fraternity will go away.

But the financial problems facing the Fraternity are those that will =
require the assistance of alumni AND actives to resolve. How might we =
do this?

1. Alumni could try to give a bit more than they do (many give what =
they can, but there are those who could probably give a little more, =
myself included). If we can't give money, then maybe time (staff, =
advisor, staffing CPWs or other LD programs, being workshop presenters =
at conferences and conventions, etc.)

2. If Chapters would try to recruit 1 extra person and initiate 1 extra =
person per pledge class, that can have a tremendous impact on both our =
membership numbers and our finances.

3. People who order items from the National Office need to PAY for =
them. I can't say if we're better in this area than we have been in the =
past, but all to often, people oder merchandise and it's months before =
they pay for it. We really should pay for things ASAP. By "people" I =
mean actives, chapters, AND alumni (myself included).

4. We need to make a diligent effort in chapter reporting, if for =
nothing more than to give us a more accurate picture of where we are

Brothers, the problems that face the Fraternity require participation =
from everyone, alumni and actives alike. Will that solve our financial =
problems? Maybe, maybe not. But we're in this organization together =
and I think the only chance we have to solve them is for all of us to =
get on board and help out. Alumni can't do it alone by simply giving =
money. Actives can't do it alone simply by recruitment. It requires, =
in my opinion, both parts.

I probably should have explained all of this in my original message, so =
my apologies for jumping on Kevin's post without more clarification.

Fraternally,

Mark

I do agree with Mark in that alumni do give money, however it blows my =
mind how un finacially stable the fraternity is. Something needs to be =
done to balance the budget. Sorry if I insulted you or anyone else. =
That was not my intent. I also realize that the national office is =
doing all that they can on working things out. I guess the question =
should be, what else can we do to help resolve the financial issues? =
Thank you for pointing out my mistake.

  Fraternally,
  Kevin Hicks
  Section 69 Chair
