While we are speaking of tragic APO News- I would like to post here also
regarding the recent death of Brother Timothy Maple, LM, SDSK, DSK, RxMA -
long time supporter of the fraternity and more especially the President of
Sigma Tau Chapter at Chapman University (then College) in California where I
pledged in 1970. (Chapman is in Section Two, Region X-though the chapter is
dormant now). He was also a previous Section Two Chairman, and an
outstanding Assistant to Region X's own Earle Herbert, (later National
President).
Tim is survived by his two sons Rusty and Jimmy, and his wife, Mary Ellen
who was one of the first women full members of a chapter in the country
(Omega Sigma, Fullerton, Calif)(as Mary Ellen Nash) and whose example did
much to help women establish themselves in chapters.
Tim was known up and down the coast of California, came to numerous
National Conventions, Regional and Sectional Conferences and was a man who
wouldn't sit still - he was always helping someone and late at night when
many others had crashed for the evening- he was still putting convention
newsletters together, arranging tables, and cleaning up conference rooms. He
was present at and/or planned and directed literally hundreds of service
projects in his APO career, was a tireless leader and friend, was a
Torchbearer for our chapter for over a decade, and an inspiration to
brothers everywhere of what Leadership, Friendship, and Service are all
about. We all loved him very much, and will miss him greatly.
