I must say that I agree with the National Office if its trying to get the
chapters to be similar to the demographics of the school. If we are a
diversified and coed organization, then our chapters should show it. By
asking that they are similar to their school makeup, yes it might take
longer to charter, but if they really want it they'll do what's necessary
to make it happen. I'd have to say that my chapter is very much like the
demographic of my school, including our international exchange student
population, who are usually only around for a year, but are very active
brothers while they are here. So it can be done. Oh and on you comment
about, and this is so not PC at all, whites coming to be part of what
blacks participate in, I'd have to say that my life experience proves the
opposite. Where I grew up and the people that I know now, including my
diverse group of personal friends, shows that there are those who like to
hang out with blacks, some even more so than hanging out with other
whites. They sometimes have a hard time being accepted by the blacks, but
once they are accepted they stay friends. But that can happen in both
directions. So maybe you grew up in a completely different environment
than I did, so I take a different view of this, but the only way to get
something to be diverse is actively make it diverse. I mean, if you think
about it, that's what affirmative action was for originally. To force
mixing of blacks and whites by saying that you have to hire so many in you
workplace, or have so many in your higher education institution.
