The national honor society that I belong to, Mortar
Board, Inc. (Pi Sigma Alpha for those of you who've
gotta have the letters!), charges incoming initiates
$55. If you're a continuing member (i.e. get inducted
your 4th year of college but don't plan on graduating
until the end of your 5th year), subsequent years are
$25. There are no national alumni fees that I am
aware of.

I'm not ready to hop off the fence yet in regards to
raising pledge/initiation fees and eliminating AAMD.
Throwing an idea into the mix which would probably tip
me in favor of the increased pleding/initiation fees
would be an extension of when the fee had to be turned
in by. In other words, perhaps raising the deadline
to have initate fees turned in from 10 days to maybe
20. Looking at this and doing some math, here's what
I come up with. Assuming a weekly payment plan spread
out over the pledging period with equal payments
totaling $100 proposed national fee:
Pledge Period of 6 weeks- approx. $17 per week
Pledge Period of 8 weeks- $12.50 per week
Pledge period of 10 weeks- $10 per week
These figures assume that all fees must be paid prior
to initiation. I'm sure that the reason National
Office gives 10 days is that they realize the fact
that not everyone is prompt in paying, checks take
time to cut, etc. However, adding an extra 10 days
could lessen payments on initiates considerably
(assuming that chapters would allow this), thus
cancelling out the majority of cost concerns. The
only thing I'm not sure of is whether or not the 10
day deadline is something that has to be changed at
Convention or can be done administratively at National
Office.
