After seeing the cosponsorship campaign for the resolution to add the oath,
I am adopting a similar practice with one of my proposed amendments, which I
will submit around 4pm EDT today.
I am proposing to reinstate extension membership. I believe that it is a
valuable tool in the extension toolbox for a section to have. Section 88 is
facing excellent growth opportunities in the next couple of years, and on a
case by case basis, extension membership can be useful for us. Perhaps then,
it can be introduced elsewhere in the nation, as to my knowledge, both
previous uses of extension membership were in New York State. I have
personally met all extensioners I have known of, and was at the petitioning
ceremony resulting from its first use.
Extension membership was targeted for elimination two years ago by a board
member from the Midwest. I do not believe any attempts in extension
membership were ever pursued from outside the East. As a result, I have
never understood why there was pressure to get rid of it, nor did I ever see
real-life reasons supporting its deletion from the bylaws.
I challenge the nay-sayers to allow extension membership to pass again and
see it in action for the better of APO.
