APO-L: For Alpha Phi Omega, a service oriented fraternity which has
chapters on many campuses in the United States. The list will provide
an opportunity for members to compare notes on their chapters, discuss
organizational issues and communicate with members at distant
chapters.
APO-L is an unofficial list and the postings reflect the opinions of
individuals and not the official policy of Alpha Phi Omega. The list
does not take the place of normal lines of communication within the
the fraternity, though it may be used to suppliment official channels.

::GUIDELINES
The following guidelines apply to APO-L. Please read them. If you
have any questions, please contact the list coordinator. The
guidelines are derived from network policies, standard netiquette and
input from subscribers.
1. When first subscribing to APO-L, please feel free to post a brief
(about a screen's worth) message about yourself to introduce
yourself to the list.
2. All postings to APO-L must be related to Alpha Phi Omega. As a
rule of thumb, if you haven't mentioned APO in your post
somewhere, the message is probably off topic.
3. All postings should be in plain text, not HTML. Many subscribers
use mail software that does not interpret HTML commands. In
addition, it causes problems for people who read the list in
DIGEST format.
4. Many subscribers receive APO-L through their place of work or via
pay services or have limited mail quotas. As a courtesy to those
who don't have unlimited net resources, please try to keep your
messages concise and to the point. Avoid using excessively long
signature lines (between 3 & 8 lines is typical). Try to avoid
posting messages that simply say 'me too.'
5. When you quote a previous message, try to include only those parts
that are necessary to make it clear what you are responding to.
Also, make sure you are attributing the quotes to the correct
individuals.
6. Netiquette dictates private responses to private email. Please do
not post private mail to APO-L even if you can't find the
recipients email address. To get a list of the address for APO-L
subscribers, you can use the REVIEW command.
7. The list does get a certain quantity of 'spam', commerical email
that is posted to a large number of lists. There are spam filters
in place which elimiate most of it, but some does get through.
Unfortunately, there is no way to completely block those who have
no consideration for others. Remember, the people sending spam are
usually not brothers, not members of the list, and have forged the
return address on the message. Do not respond to or discuss this
junk mail. Complaining about it only increases the amount of junk
mail on the list. The apparent sender could be a victim of the
spammer too. The list administrator will take action to try and
make sure the purpetrators are dealt with.
While there are stricter measures that can reduce the amount of
spam the list gets, those measures also cut off some brothers'
access to the list. To let as many brothers as possible have
access to APO-L, we need to put up with a little spam.
8. Please do not "flame" (insult) individuals over APO-L or in
private mail. Discussions will naturally bring disagreements,
however, rebuttals should always be made in a rational, logical
and mature manner in public or private. Argue about the points
being made, not people's character.
9. Please refrain from using any language that might be considered
questionable (even by the most conservative of us) on APO-L.
10. The chartering of a new chapter should be announced once by either
a representative of the new chapter or the assisting chapter.
Congratulations (which are definitely in order) should be sent via
PRIVATE e-mail.
11. Newly initiated pledge classes may also be announced by a single
representative. Again, congratulations and good wishes should be
sent via PRIVATE e-mail.
12. Invitations to events should only be posted once, unless there is
a major change to the original announcement. Arrangements to
attend an event should be made via private email and not across
APO-L.
13. Subscription to APO-L is *not* limited to active brothers. There
are pledges, perspectives, petitioners and interested by-standers
on the list. Please do not discuss the details of any fraternity
rituals on the list.
14. Most of the points above can be summarized by: Keep in mind the
principles which Alpha Phi Omega was founded on and be courteous
to the members of this list.

to receive each day's postings as a single message or 'digest'. To
get the list in digest form, send the command:

To return to receiving the messages individually, use the command:

APO-L communications are logged weekly. You may retrieve these notebooks

where yy is the year and mm is the month and w is the week (where A=week
1, B=Week 2, etc. of the requested notebook.

job networking in addition to fraternity-related matters.
