Brothers:
I thought about this for a while, and decided to open a Yahoo!Group
spefically for submission and discussion of legislation Brothers are
proposing for review at the 2002 National Convention. My thought is that by
offering the opportunity for Brothers to share and review legislation drafts
in advance of Nationals, it would help with the following:
1. Limit duplicity in submissions. Last convention, I noticed that on a
few matters, several Brothers submitted several amendments that did the
exact same thing. Limiting duplicity now would help decrease reference
committee workload.
2. Create stronger base of support for amendments and proposals. Many of
us have great ideas, but we are often the only known supporters of them.
The more supporters (sponsors) a proposal or amendment has, the better the
chance it has of making it through reference committee and onto the
covention floor. If Brothers share their ideas on legislation, they may
find other Brothers in agreement, thus building sponsorship constituencies
that can help further the legislation's chances of passage.
I imagine that many of you can find other benefits of this service. It may
prove not to work as I intended, but it is worth a shot.
Just in case anyone is wondering, I proposed this idea over the weekend to
National President McKenzie, and he thought that it was worth trying.

Hopefully, this will work out to help us through the legislation drafting
process.
