Hello all, I just wanted to send this out again since the school year has
now started up. I'm sorry to those of you that have already received this
letter!

Hello Fellow Brothers,
My name is Kara Ploof and I'm an Alumni Brother from Alpha Gamma Eta.
Currently I am working for The Alma McLeod Foundation and trying to gain
contacts at as many APO chapters as I can. The Alma McLeod Foundation
is looking to hold a Stay Awake at Nationals, along with getting as many
chapters to do a Stay Awake at home (for those not going to Nationals).
If you aren't familiar with what a Stay Awake is or with what The Alma
McLeod Foundation does, here is a brief explanation...
The Alma McLeod Foundation's purpose is "to alleviate homelessness,
hunger, and poverty and to support organizations that have the same
goals". Stay Awakes, bowl-a-thons, walk-a-thons, toy drives, penny
collections, bottle drives and numerous other activities are what fund
AMF. To hold a Stay Awake, participants must "stay awake" for 12 hours.
Usually from 6 or 7pm to 6 or 7am. In order to participate each person
must have at least a $12 donation (works out to be $1 per hour). No
money needs to be collected, just the name and full address of the
person donating. The Foundation will send an invoice for the donation.
Ultimately the plan is to get chapters interested in a National Service
Project.... at Nationals or where ever you might be over Winter Break.
I know it's a long way off, but we need to get things rolling now. I'm
also looking for Chapters that would be interested in helping to recruit
others, or have an active roll in planning events to take place at
Nationals during the Stay Awake.
AMF is always looking for help with fundraising and ideas. We do not
solicit corporate moneys, nor do we receive Federal money. AMF would love
for any of your chapters to do a fundraiser at anytime. In fact,
we’d love to have you turn an AMF fundraiser in to an annual event. Another
idea is to incorporate other campus groups, organizations,
fraternities, or sororities. This could help in reaching a higher
fundraising goal, as there would be more people involved. The goal you set
is completely up to your chapter. Every dollar raised is a dollar toward
helping those in need.
You can keep in touch with me either through email, snail mail or phone.
I'd like to be able to get packets of information out to chapters as
soon as possible. So, if you could send me contact information for your
chapters I would really appreciate it. If you know contact information
for any other chapters that you think would be interested in this please
send those to me also and I'll get the packets right out to them.
If at any point your chapter would like to host a project, just contact the
main office of The Alma McLeod Foundation at 800-DIAL-LIF(E) or myself at
the VT office at 802-651-8878.
Again, please feel free to email or call with any questions you may have.
Thank you to those chapters that have already contacted me.
