Hello John (and all of APO-L),
The advisor requirements for a chapter are listed in our Standard
Chapter Articles of Association, Article VI. The text of that article
is:
"This Chapter shall have an Advisory Committee consisting of four
or more Advisors including, at minimum, two Advisors from the
faculty, administration or staff of this educational institution, one
Advisor representing Scouting or other youth services, and one
advisor from the community. One of the Advisors shall be elected
by the Chapter as the Chair of the Advisory Committee and shall
serve on the Chapter's Executive Committee."
Based on some of the feedback I have received (either directly or
passively) since the amendment was passed, my perception is that the
intent of the Community advisor is not clearly evident. To provide some
clarity (I hope), here is an excerpt of the rationale I submitted with
the amendment proposal in 1998, regarding the Community advisor:
"This change improves the representation of our fourfold service program
in the collective background of the advisory committee and encourages
chapters to establish tangible relationships with their communities. The
term _community_ is intended as an all-encompassing term for the
geographic location of the educational institution as well as other
locations in which the chapter may be completing its service
activities."
I hope this helps.
In L, F, and S,
Natalie
