Brothers:
I just wanted to share with everyone about a short, but very wonderful
weekend I experienced in Region XI. It was my first time up to that
beautiful part of the nation and it was definitely time well spent.
I had the opportunity to travel out to Central Washington University in
Ellensburg, Wash., (about 110 miles east of Seattle) and met some of the
nicest brothers I have ever met who also showed me an excellent time during
the Section 8 Conference. Joining me on the trip up there was
Membership/Extension Program Director Maggie Katz who gave three
presentations in the membership area.
It was a small conference in terms of the number of brothers in attendance,
but there was an mammoth amount of spirit and brotherhood, which left me
feeling really good about the great things that are happening in our newest
and smallest region. I learned a lot about our fraternity and the great
things our brothers are doing in the Pacific Northwest.
The co-conference chairs, Teresa and Ellen, as well as the brothers of the
Eta Xi Chapter, did a fantastic job of running the conference which
literally went off without a hitch. (and yes, those parting gifts for my
upcoming 40th birthday did return to Ohio safely, much to the amusement of
my wife Sandy).
I know that newly-elected chair Shannon Berry will continue the efforts made
by her predecessor Clifton Gilley in helping to build the fraternity in
Section 8 and Region XI . I hope to return for another visit there in the
future for another wonderful time.
Thanks again to the brothers of Section 8 and Region XI Director Dave
Corning for the gracious hospitality which made for an unforgettable visit.
I look forward to seeing many of you in Philadelphia for the 2000 National
Convention.
