Hi, Brods and Sis

I was on the telephone between 1:00 and 2:00 a.m. PDST, Monday, September
13,
1999, with Brod Teddie E. Rivera, national president of the Alpha Phi Omega
of the Philippines. Here are a few bits of information I learned and would
like to pass on to you:

NATIONAL OFFICE MOVED

The national office moved to its new headquarters in the first few days of
September 1999. The old address and telephone number are no longer valid.
Please update your records as follows:

The National Office
Alpha Phi Omega International (Philippines), Incorporated
Service Fraternity and Sorority
Residencia Braganza, Suite 3A
270 Ermin Garcia Street, Silangan Cubao
Quezon City, Metropolitan Manila
Republic of the Philippines
Tel. and Fax: (632) 439-7603
Second Tel.: (632) 439-7640

HQ FULLY FURNISHED; CASH DONATIONS NEEDED

The national executive board wanted to make the national office most
presentable. New furnishings cost some PhP160,000 or US$4,016 (based on
Saturday's conversion rate of US$1 = PhP39.85, PhP1 = US$0.0251). This
amount
was loaned to APO-Philippines by the national officers.

The national office is eagerly waiting for the new computer system donated
by
the APO (Philippines) Alumni Council of North America in care of Brod Eugene
L. Licauco, APO-ACNA president. To purchase other equipment and to help
repay
the loans quickly, cash donations are encouraged. Your contributions will be
duly acknowledged. Please give generously to:

The Alpha Phi Omega National Office Fund
Alpha Phi Omega International (Philippines), Incorporated
Service Fraternity and Sorority
Account No. 2571-0672-37
Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI)
North Greenhills Branch
San Juan, Metropolitan Manila
Republic of the Philippines

What happened to the old furniture and equipment? Most of them were
auctioned
in August 1999, and the national office raised PhP30,000 (US$753).

STAFF AT OFFICE 9-7

The national officer is open daily between 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. and
staffed by volunteers under two (2) administrative officers, Brods Martin
Alcantara and Bim Mineque. Other responsibilities: Brod Clint Django Bacana,
national executive secretary, is getting set up with an Internet account and
soon will take care of communications and correspondence to and from the
national office. Sis Jean Belarmino is director of public relations affairs,
which will be in charge of the publicity and promotion of APO in the mass
media. Sis Jean is a member of the Philippine Star newspaper reporting
staff.

Historically, APO-Philippines never had a good handle on communications,
which is a point of emphasis for development years 1999-2001. Aside from the
three brods and the sis mentioned above, the NEB will tap on the potential
of
the Internet and plans to invite Brod Rey Canlas (PhilWorld Online Corp.) as
honorary chair of the web site committee, with possible members Sis Bima L.
Baje (PhilWorld Online Corp.), Brod Mel S Gonzales Jr (apophilnet mail list
service), Brod Boy Lopez Jr. (Munting Alas webmaster), and Brods Gene Aure,
Chito Refuerzo, and Jun Tapay (APO-ACNA webmasters), among other invitees.
We
also learned Region IX has volunteered to develop the APO-Philippines web
site.

TORCH & TREFOIL REPRINT OUT, QUARTERLY IN OCTOBER

As announced by Sis Bima (apophil@pworld.net.ph), the second-printing copies
of the Torch & Trefoil May 1999 convention book are out and are available
for
PhP200 (US$5.02) plus shipping and handling. For more information, please
send a message to the apotorch@pworld.net.ph e-mail address.

Brod Teddie said Sis Tata N. Humoc, national vice president for sorority
affairs, is in charge of meeting T&T obligations to paid advertisers. If you
advertised and have yet to receive your complimentary copy of the convention
book, please write Sis Tata at vfpsdai@nsclub.net.

Brod Teddie also announced that T&T will be issued quarterly, and two are
coming out this year -- one by the end of October and another on December
16,
APOs 74th foundation anniversary. For more information, please contact Brod
Giovanni Bautista, T&T editor, at giovannibautista@hotmail.com.

2 OUTSTANDING SERVICE PROJECTS: TREE PLANTING AND BOY SCOUTING

National President Brod Teddie E. Rivera (ter@mozcom.com) was very happy to
announce APO-Philippines has two major service projects in the works:

In cooperation with the department of environment and natural resources
(Brod
Antonio H. Cerilles is DENR secretary), the 15 regions in the Philippines
will each tend to an APO Tree Park. Each park will be from 3 to 20 hectares
(from 7.41 to 49.42 acres; based on 1 hectare = 2.471 acres) and located
close enough to the town or city center so that tree planting and
maintenance
may be performed with no extra logistical requirements. The national tree
planting date is set for Sunday, September 26. For more information, please
contact the regional development directors.

The NEB is coordinating with the Boy Scouts of the Philippines to help the
out-of-school youth get into the movement. Volunteering alumni associations
will each sponsor two young non-students in joining the Boy Scouts. The
alumni associations will take care of the uniform and other needs. During
jamborees, collegiate chapters will be enjoined to provide first aid and
help
out at the Boy Scout camp. Arrangements are also under way so that APO will
have an honorary directorship in the BSP board, and BSP in the NEB. For
further details, please contact the national office.

BRITANICO MAKES SHORT LIST OF TRUSTEES

Tonight, 11:00-11:30 p.m., I placed another overseas call to the Philippines
and spoke with Sis Atty. Hilda "Gigi" Sacay Clave, national executive vice
president and chair of the Alpha Phi Omega Foundation. Sis Gigi said
donations have started to come in. The APO Foundation is considering
nominations for the seven-member board of trustees, and Brod Salvador
"Buddy"
B. Britanico is on the short list. If you have other nominees, please
contact
Gigi at clavelaw@broline.com or her office phone (632) 820-1766 to -69, Fax
(632) 820-1766, and cell phone 0918-901-5234.

Please give to this most worthy recipient of your generosity and legacy:

BAR OPERATIONS EVERY SUNDAY THIS MONTH

Good luck to this years crop of future lawyers. Gigi informed us the annual
APO bar operation is under way and ably coordinated by Iota Psi chapter at
Arellano University College of Law. The bar-op committee needs help in
putting up the law brods and sis at nearby accommodations the next few days
while the lawyers-to-be review and until they complete the bar examinations.
For more information, please contact Brod David Serapio at
dserapio@amanet.net or page him at 150-334-369.

FINALLY, BLUEGOLD, THE APO AFTER-OFFICE HANGOUT

Brod Teddie said BlueGold is still the favorite restaurant of brods and sis
to hang out after work in Metropolitan Manila. Its located at the corner of
Roces and Mother Ignacia in Quezon City. Its like the bar in the television
comedy series, "Cheers," where "everybody knows your name." Because they
always are APO members there who manage and staff BlueGold as well as brods
and sis who frequent the bar and grill on their own or to attend an NEB,
alumni association, or chapter meeting.

If this sounds like a commercial for BlueGold, it is. I spent several
wonderful evenings there when I visited the Philippines in April-May 1999.
And, since Im going back home in December, I want to be sure BlueGold will
still be around by years end. This, after all, is an all-APO business
venture. And I always want to go where everybody knows my name and where I
know everyones name as well.

Until the next update. Cheers!

In Alpha Phi Omega Leadership, Friendship, and Service
