Anybody want to help out with a cool science project
without doing anything at all?
There's a new project that was just launched as part
of the SETI Project (Search for ExtraTerrestrial
Intelligence). Essentially, they're giving out a
screensaver on their website which will periodically
download information gather from the Arecibo Radio
Telescope. Your computer will then process this
information when it is otherwise idle (it runs as a
screensaver, so when you're using your computer, the
program is not running). When your computer finishes
a batch, it automatically dials up your internet
connection and sends the data back to SETI, then gets
more data. So you don't have to do anything, but
you'll be helping out a very important scientific
project. And if your computer discovers an alien
signal, you will be listed as co-discoverer ;-) ...
