Please forgive the length of this posting. Although a letter
to this effect was sent to every chapter this month with the
National Chapter Bulletin, this information needs a wider
distribution than what that letter might get!

Make no mistake, summer IS coming! And with summer comes the
chance to build your leadership skills at a Chapter Program
Workshop near you. The sites for the 1999 Chapter Program Workshops
have now been set:
6/18-20 Winston-Salem, NC
Fort Worth, TX
6/25-27 Stillwater, OK
7/16-18 New Brunswick, NJ
Toledo, OH
Fairfax, VA
7/23-25 Orono, ME
Atlanta, GA
Cedar Falls, IA
7/30-8/1 Ithaca, NY
Charleston, IL
But what is a Chapter Program Workshop (aka CPW), and why should
you invest a weekend of your precious summer in going to one?
In a nutshell, a CPW is like no other experience you will ever have
in APO. Truly, this is a unique opportunity to spend a weekend
with a relatively small to medium-sized group of APO brothers
from a number of different chapters, near and far, focused on the
Fraternity we love, with one goal in common: to become better
leaders in our chapters.
Each CPW begins on Friday night and ends around noon on Sunday. In
between, you'll explore the elements that contribute to a healthy
and successful chapter: Planning, communications, recruiting,
retention, brainstorming, delegation, basic chapter operations,
problem solving and more. Every chapter has strengths and
weaknesses, and a CPW is a chance for key leaders in every chapter
to come together, share experiences and explore possibilities.
What's more, you leave the CPW with a personal action plan that
you devise to take you into the next year as a leader in your
chapter.
Along the way, you'll also have a great time with your brothers.
This is summer, after all!
The program is geared towards the needs of Presidents, Vice Presidents
of Service and Vice Presidents of Membership, but other officers
and chapter leaders can find it to be of great benefit, too. Each
CPW is staffed by experienced APO volunteers and national leaders,
providing the opportunity for you to get answers and ideas from
those who've "been there" and know the ropes.
The CPW has become such a successful and well-received part of
Alpha Phi Omega's leadership development program that it is now
offered each summer in multiple locations around the country,
allowing members from all regions of the country to have access to
its unique features. And there's no restriction on which CPW you can
attend -- any CPW that is convenient is open to you, regardless of
the region your chapter is in. In fact, going to a CPW outside of
your region enhances the exchange of ideas and information!
What's more, the price is about as good as you can get -- $40, no
matter which CPW you attend. That price includes materials, two
nights lodging and five meals (three on Saturday, two on Sunday).
The actual cost of holding each CPW may be higher than $40 per head,
but the Fraternity makes up the difference -- one more way in which
your membership is a benefit to you.
To register, use the registration form that was sent to your chapter
or download an electronic copy from the National Office web page:
