Cheryl--

Actually you started serving in your current role on December 30th, 199*4*.
I know I was sitting there, both for your election and your installation...
and my ONLY sorry thought from that day is that I did not meet you until you
became Regional Director...

And like it or not, that's still a part of 1994... ;) Just try amending your
1995 tax returns with receipts from December 30th, 1994... you just TRY! ;)

*so there!* *puffs out chest in mock pride*
*chuckles*

I made care to make that decision that my first two terms were for half years.

The first term was for half a year because the students were unwilling to
elect for a full term, because the previous service had not met there needs
for more years than anyone could care to count and they did not want to
waste another year waiting for someone with a clue... as the last section
chair before me to win re-election in Section 94 was a FULL decade in the
past (for Randy's benefit that was Mrn). AND I was also an undergraduate
from outside the Section, and during my whole four years (4 years, and 30
days) I never once was a permanent resident of my section. I don't blame
them, and I very much take to heart the realities that I learned from that
meeting, that we ARE here for the students... APO and that our service
should be centered on THEIR needs. I don't mince the situation that was
there... nor do I hide from it... because it's an important distinction
that ALL elected staff in APO should remember. That we the alumni-staff
are here at the sufferance of the students we serve. I KNOW you know this...
and I know you are pointing this "confusion" so that
a) people aren't confused
b) so that I'm not embarrassed... well I'm not. Maybe if there'd been no
second term... but not considering the following three years...

and the second "half year" term was to bring us back in line with Standard
Practice... but Cheryl, if I had done a shitty job with that first term...
I would have been gone... and you and I both know that... therefore I make
that a clear distinction, and the students who were there for that first
vote, have made it very clear to me, as recently as yesterday that THEY
appreciate that I do make that distinct. Three out of those five voting
delegates being on staff these days.

Cheryl... I could not have done it without *you*, we worked TOGETHER.
I've learned a LOT from you, and due to your patience, kindness, caring, and
willingness to explain... I've learned SO MUCH my friend... and like I said
the years are still young... and we just get to deal with those other pokers
that have been simmering in the fire... like full time 100% effort on APO
Canada... among other things... as your heart... it's one of gold... this I
and the rest of Region I have learned...

> I know that this is not the end of this road... merely another path...for

Hardly... and it seems a great place to announce some of the "stuff" I'm
working on if anyone is interested in scouting over the summer... there
will be opportunities to staff the New Brunswick-Maritime Jamboree...
more details coming... once everything comes together...

and I'm also going to be learning a lot about advising... but I'll tell
you about that Cheryl when there's no cc list...

> PS/ Love you lots...but I warned you :)
yes you did... and I don't mind...

> PPS/ Nice letter though.. VERY WELL SAID!
I learned from a masters *points finger toward New Jersey and Maryland*

today's quote of the day:

"Listen is an art, not an involuntary biological response."

and I believe I can attribute that comment to you... circa 1996,
and one of our numerous phone calls... about APO. I'm listening
AND speaking precisely...
