Brothers,
As a political scientist and student of Congress, I've been following =
with interest this "internet regulation bill", regarding allowing phone =
companies to charge long distance rates for the internet.
While I haven't seen such a bill, it has been said that the FCC will =
have authority to allow phone companies to make those charges. Just =
last week, it was reported that Senator John McCain (R-AZ) [that's =
Republican from Arizona, for you non-political types], who chairs the =
Senate's Commerce Committee, was planning to introduce a bill that would =
PREVENT the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) from giving phone =
companies that authority.
I should point out that I've not seen either bill, so I can't tell you =
with any certainty if either one is a reality. My suggestion, as =
someone pointed out earlier, is to either contact your rep or contact =
the office of Senator McCain and find out if he indeed introduced such a =
bill.
Fraternally,
Mark Stratton
Section 52 Communications Chair
