First of all, let me apologize for being sarcastic. I never intended
on coming across quite that way, but sometimes I have this strange
tendency to go off the deep end a bit!
Secondly, how can you talk about not splitting us up when in the SAME
PARAGRAPH you mention that a new toast song could be created?!?! To
me, that implies different chapters singing two different toast songs
and having different standard, which to me, means two different
organizations! And I don't think I have to mention that creating a
new toast song would be somewhat difficult when we can't even add a
third verse in how many national conventions (not that I'm saying we
should)?
The way I see it, is that the 1976 Gentlemen's Agreement was designed
to allow those chapters that desired to remain all-male to remain so
until such time as they either a) desired to go coed, b) were forced
to by the university, or c) went under (at which time the chapter that
recharted would be forced to recharter as coed). There are only a
handful all-male chapters left, and the way I see it, this number is
diminishing. Granted, chapters like Delta will probably never change,
but that's just something we have to live with. It's not worth
splitting the fraternity in two over!
