One of the things that is done during meetings at Alpha Delta Iota
(VCU) is something called the, "Anything Bag." Essentially, we pass
around a bag that has some blank pads of paper in it during the
meeting, and brothers can write ANYTHING they want on it (kind of like
announcements, but has also turned in to somewhat of a forum for
jokes, or a way to communicate some interesting highlights and tidbits
of the past week to everyone). During the announcements segment of
the meeting, the bag is opened and read to the brotherhood by one of
the brothers. Brothers write jokes, write some impromptu service
project announcements with a bit of wit, write positive reinforcements
to the pledges (and brothers), or whatever else comes to mind. One
word of caution: in really large chapters, this bag can really fill
up, so it may take longer to read. We started out doing it at every
meeting, but due to the size of the chapter, now do it at every other
meeting.

My other chapter (Alpha Beta Omega, ODU) has a "Toast Question," right
before singing the toast song. We circle up for the toast song, and
then the Chapter President asks a random question (what was your
favorite service project this week? what are you going to do for
spring break?), and then the president passes the gavel around and
everyone answers the question.
