I wanted to ask everyone what the role of advisors is/isn't in your
chapters. Recently the chapter I am involved with has had a problem
because some of the executive board complained that an advisor was
participating too much in the chapter. This particular advisor goes to
all the meetings, goes to service projects, and offers help to the e-board
any time she can. She tries to encourage the chapter to get involved at
meetings because there is a great deal of apathy in this particular
chapter. In response to her activity in the chapter, she was told that
she is not acting as an advisor should, and should not participate in the
meetings or discussion unless someone came to her for advice (which they
have never done). This chapter has never had an advisor do anything but
sit back and be a buffer to the administration before, and they seem to
think that an advisor should only do that.
        So, if you all could either respond to the list or to me
personally at sallie@siue.edu I would greatly appreciate it. I want to
save our chapter from losing a great advisor who tries daily to live by
the principles of leadership, friendship, and service.
Thanks =)
Shana
